Map R in Load.ini
#1

I have noticed that there is a line in the load.ini files of map that gives:

ReflMap = map_R.tga

However I have never seemed to encounter an R map in any of the maps I have nor is there any mention of it in the map-making tutorial. I would surmise it is a relief map, meant to give an extra look of depth to a landscape, probably much like the use of bumph files. But I could be mistaken about this so please correct me if wrong.

But even so, does anyone know of a way in which to make them? Or if they are of any specific use?

It also seems a bit odd that other missing files or maps files that are written in a load.ini may cause havoc and problems when loading, but that the Rmap is apparently passed over without a hitch ...

hi agracier
I've wondered about this for some time, myself. I'm not sure if it is actually a relief map, though.
My guess is its some sort of lighting, just from the Refl abbreviation - reflection, or something like that.
I think a relief map would have been abbreviated Relf, and not Refl.....like I said, this is just guesswork, on my behalf.... 8)

I have come across these files in some of the stock maps & have messed about with them to try & see what they do but I have never been able to see what difference they make. They must do something, but it's so subtle that I can't spot it.

The size always seems to be 512x512 whatever the size or shape of the map they are for. Here is the one for the MTO

I read this awhile ago about the Map_R

Is it one of those with a long number for a file name?

What does it look like when its opened.
What format?
What image size?
What does it do?

In situations like these first add line in SFS Extractor filelist.txt to extract load.ini of desired map.

In your case it's this:

MAPS/Slovakia/load.ini

Maps are in Map.SFS so you extract latest maps.sfs and get load.ini. There you see all of the files used by map and than extract them. For map R you add line in SFS Extractor filelist:

MAPS/Slovakia/map_R.tga

It looks like this.

Format is tga.

512x512 pixels

I don't have any idea what is purpose of that map.

I believe the same map_R file could do for every map.
