Icons and rcu file manipulation
#1

Hi All, especially Flying Nutcase (hopefully),

Thanks to one of Flying Nutcase's old tutorials, I had long ago modified the .rcu file in the game root so that I could have customized icons...smaller with a black cross for Axis and a small minus sign for Allies, with varying sighting distances. (For you purists out there, I only fly offline, and use themto quickly pick out an enemy in a swirling dogfight with these old eyes!) The command line (shift + tab) and the icons themselves were all tied to my joystick and throttle buttons, so with a quick flick or two they were off/on. Nifty!

The manipulation was a typed series of commands. After deciding to go with UP1.8 modpack, I did a clean install 1946/408/409/UP1.8--but it doesn't work.
I had originally had it in my game before the AAA mods came about, and it continued to work in the "old" modding days after adding dozens of mods. So I was wondering, does the UP1.8 mod pack somehow use a different command system? Or maybe 409m uses a different command system? (By the way, the basic game root rcu file ant the file after UP 1.8 install looks exactly the same.)

I put this message at the UP forum, but no answers yet. I also tried contacting Flying Nutcase through his tutorial website, but no luck there either. So I'm trying here.

Thanks in advamce to anyone who can help!

S!

Are you saying the RCU command does not work even if you enter it manually?

Aviar,

I originally typed the commands in manually, but the custom icons didn't show (the command lines came up on the screen, but it wasn't loading/showing the custom commands, so I cut and pasted them in. Still no joy. But the regular icons do work normally.

Can you switch to an unmodded version and see if your custom icons work then?

You probably had a mod that allowed you to use those new commands and icons. Standard icon commands work as ever in the RCU file.

Perhaps this: viewtopic.php?t=2570

Nope, aviar, I don't have an unmodded version I can switch too, unfortunately.

ak, I had tried FC's mod quite a long toime after I had just done the commands myself following Flying Nutcase's directions, but other than having some new symbols, it basically used the same commands, so I went back to the old way. I haven't installed that mod this time around.

I think I'll try to re-key them in and see if that does something. Maybe I missed a stroke last time, or cut something off in the cut/paste method.

the following lines added to the rcu file work fine for me in HSFX4:

@a if mp_dotrange FRIENDLY DOT 16 RANGE .005 COLOR .005 ID 5 TYPE .005 NAME .005
@a ie mp_dotrange FOE DOT 16 RANGE .005 COLOR .oo5 ID .005 TYPE .005 NAME .005

"if" and "ie" are my console commands. There is nothing that I know of, or in Flying Nutcase's tutorials, that allows you to force use of only a single symbol icon. I thought that was what FC's mod allowed.

ak,

Those look like mine. I'll post them when I get home from work. As a matter of fact, I had originally just copied and pasted the commands from Nutcase's tutorial. It was FC's mod that allowed for the symbols, but the commands were almost identical. I haven't tried it that way this time, though, I just used the Nutcase version, so to speak. Still no joy. Maybe it is the UP1.8 that somehow is messing with this???

Fixed! I must have had a keystroke wrong or something. I just copied akdavis' commands and it works. Thanks ak! Now maybe I'll try FC's mod to be able to use the symbols.

If you still have a copy of this mod, please reupload and post a link in appropriate topic (http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/...php?t=2570)! You have my gratitude, in advance Smile

I've been looking for that thing for about three months already - seems just like no one has it. Sad
