Hi, we need to model a 170 gal droptank for the Spitfire PR XI and it would be very helpful if you as a community could find some pictures of that droptank as I have searched for it with no luck :S
Thanks for the help.
Will scan some in later for you mate
Got a three view factory drawing if its any use still
Okay, that's weird. I came in here for the specific purpose of asking if anyone could think about making a Mk XI version of the Spitfire. A bunch of skins out there have been made to make the Mk VIII look like a photo recon bird, but why, I wondered , isn't anyone making one. We have just about every Spit that ever flew, except that one.
Now, about that tank. I can tell you that I have a lot of photos of the Mk XI and I don't see a single photo of one wearing that!
It's too big and heavy. Too much drag. The Mk XI was unarmed and depended on it's speed as it's only defense. I doubt if they ever carried it. Probably why you can't find a picture of one.
As a matter of fact, that looks like a ferry tank. Just something to get the airplane to a point way out of it's range for delivery purposes, but not for combat.
The P.R. XI had it's guns removed and in their place, internal wing tanks were placed in the leading edge of the wing that ran almost the full span of the wing. This version of the Spit was very fast and could travel all the way from it's base in England to Berlin, and back. A long trip in the tight confines of a Spitfire cockpit! Until the jets came out, the Luftwaffe had nothing that could stop them.
The 8TH Air Forces 7th Photo Recon Group were the only U.S. unit to fly the plane, as far I know.
If you really want to get historically correct with the model, I can tell you there was one noticeable difference between R.A.F. Mk XI's and the ones flown by the 8TH.
The 7th removed the flat , bullet proof windscreen on theirs, and replaced them with a more rounded , streamlined windscreen. The R.A.F. version retained the fighter style flat screen.
It was felt that the more rounded version gave the plane a few more miles per hour, and like I said, speed was the planes only defense.
Please show some work i progress screens.Thanks.

About the finding pictures of it, I only managed to find 1 possibly two can't remember now wartime pictures of the PR 11 this morning so the likelihood of it having that droptank is very low...
Geez, Raptor! You mean that been under developement all this time? Where the Hell have I been? I stop in this forum almost every day to see what the latest mod is! Well, great work...and you even worked on the windscreen I was talking about. Feel like an idiot, but terrific job. Looking forward to it. I've always been fascinated with the recon birds.
