ADSL barricade and IL-2 trouble - version 2
#1

Well, it finally happened to me... I can't play IL-2 online at my present location... End of world!

I'm behind a 512/512 connection with a SMC "ADSL Barricade SMC7204BRA"

My computer is plugged directly into the barricade, and so is another computer in another location in the house. I've played IL-2 online with this barricade, but with different computers... This time I've brought my normal gaming PC with me, and before you ask, yes, it's the same PC I normally use, and firewalls and antivirus are configured to work with IL-2 as per normal use.

I've tried to open up the ports as I best can, but it seems that something still is amiss, and due to the utility for it being very unintuitive, I can't find anything else that I might have missed...

I'm able to play other games online without any previous adjustment to the router/barricade thing, such as Counterstrike, Empire: Total War, Rise of Flight, just to name a few.

Hope someone has a solution...

Cheers

Edit:

Time to move this one back to the top...

I found out that there was a second router/adsl barricade (call it what you will) in the house, in a drawer. So I dug it out and plugged it in, it's a SMC7904BRA2 but the same problem persists.

Whenever I go to join a server it just sits there saying "please wait" and then I get the timeout.

The router's built-in firewall, my antivirus and my firewall on the pc are completely turned off, and offcourse the retarded windows default protection software are disabled (Windows defender and windows firewall)

I have a sneaky feeling at this point that it most likely is a problem with my ISP, but if anyone has any suggestions, please go right ahead and post.

I will be calling them tomorrow and inquire wtf is going on, since this has worked before at this location with this router, and since EVERYTHING else works flawlessly...

Lastly, I need to know what ports IL-2 uses for communication inbound and outbound, I know about port 21000, but is that the only one?

I have no such thing as "Virtual Server settings"

I have attempted to make some NAT rules as specified on another forum, but that article wasn't IL-2 related...

Basically, as I understand it anyway; the NAT rule opens up a direct "hole" in the system to the specific host I want to connect to. I can however monitor what is going on traffic wise via my firewall, and IL-2 sends about 5-8 kb of data to the host, but doesn't receive anything back, which leads me to believe that the problem lies in receiving a connection from the host.

Again, this is the same computer as I normally use, and it is configured to run IL-2 with or without firewall. I have also tried to use multiple versions of the game, as I have several installed.... but to no avail.

Do you have any experience with this particular router? because I tried opening ports, from 19500 to 22500, just to see if it worked, but it didn't, so they're now closed again...

That seems to be the manual for the SMC7204BRB, but I have a SMC7204BRA

The utility looks similar, but it's obvious that the one on my router is older, as it looks like an older design.

There is no section, submenu or dropdown list that contains the words "virtual server" so I'm at a loss now...

Edit: the closest I have found is this on page 163 in the actual manual for this specific device... http://www.smc.com/files/AV/MN_7204BRA_UserGuide.pdf
I have experimented with adding NAT rules, but as a complete novice on routers etc. I don't really know what to do about them to make them work as they should...

Maybe the RDR section, on page 68?

yes... well I have tried numerous options with the RDR rules now, but it's still the same thing

I don't understand what the to and from addresses should be specifically, so if anyone has any ideas...

How about this:

This is really for hosting, since port forwarding should not be required for joining a server.
