POSSIBLE CARRIER A/C SOLUTION (NUTS??)
#16

Hi,

again thanks for your replies, I am only giving ideas which I believe would make intresting gamelay in a 1946 scenario......because although it might sound like a fantasy or star trek idea.......the germans actually built the carrier & tested carrier planes.

The only reason why the project got cancelled/paused & it didn't get finalised was because they conquiered europe & saw no immediate use for the carrier & redirected the energy to subs (i'm no expert but it's more or less what i've read).

Later on I wll post some intresting pics, on what they were working on. If any of you can supply info , links etc...please do, just for the sake of proving that it was not Star wars, but a project that got quite far but, was cancelled.

I just did some testing, and we don't really even need a mod to do this. It's possible using nothing but the full mission builder. Set two aircraft carriers on the same course and speed, then using the 3d view adjust them so that they are very close without actually touching.

The jump from the first deck to the second is a little frightening, but I was able to get a fully loaded F4U off the deck 4 times out of five, and a YP-80 Ten times out of Ten!.

It's even easier to do this for a dogfight map, as you can place the carriers so they actually overlap slightly, you can have as long a flight deck as you want!

True, and you don't need more than one carrier either...

Not forgetting that carriers headed into the wind (if available) during take off & landing of a/c and IL2 doesn't model wind like that, this .mis notepad trick is a handy one.

Roger that Willy. I'd rather see them spend their time on trying to figure out how to put a hook on the planes, such as the Stuka, 109, and 190, than trying to mate a couple of ships from the FMB. Maybe by then, they will have figured out how to apply different skins to the ships so the Graf Zepplen(sp?) could be reasonably represented.

Well, from what i've read, they cannot do it without touching the flight model, which i agree in principle.

However, merging 2 ships to create a new one......could be acceptable, it might be possible or impossible or too time consuming, I accept that, but....it does sound iintresting, from my point of view! Big Grin

And with the current carriers, you cannot take off from a carrier, with decent fuel amounts, in a stuka with a bombload. If anyone does, let me knowConfusedhock:

I hope your aircraft carrier is not stopped when you take off !!!! An aircraft NEVER take off on STOPPED CV. The ship move at maximum speed to help aircraft to take off.
I tryed with a Stuka (100% fuel and SC250) on US generic CV. I take off before the end of the bridge !!!!

Before saying anything, spend time to test !!!

Cheers ...

Uh, I just did a test mission in a Ju-87B2, 100% fuel, with a full bomb load (1x SC250 + 4xSC50) carrier Zuikaku at a speed of 31Km/h and took off no problem.

I even took a track of it if you want it.

EDIT: Just went back and did it with an escort carrier.

Hi guys,

you were right, I had the carrier at 10 km/hr.....now i'm using the USS Lexington at 67km/hr, good bombloads & 100 fuel.
