I hate it when .....at about 1000 ft...you suddenly start to bump all over the place...just when you are trying to line your sights up on some ground objects you are going to straffe.....

Is this realistic..??

There should be a way to turn it off.....or at least alter the height at which it takes effect......any ideas?

There's a wind mod out right now that lets you change the weather and turbulence in all weather conditions. Here's a link: (The link is inoperative)

There is a way to turrn it off; check the realism settings panel. I always turn it off, since the AI is not affected by it, I don't see why I should be unfairly disadvantaged.
