Viewpoint Position proposal MOD
#1

I don't think it was ever discusted in here about a mod for viewpoint position. What am I trying to talk about.

Everybody knows that LW planes and most of IJA/IJN have the gunsight a bit to the right, the thing is that when you are using the position "without the gunsight centered" the pilots view is a bit lower most of the time. I find this a bit strange. Why should a pilot have a lower position when in level flight or not aiming and when aiming he has to raise his head or entire body... or in some cases crouch to have a good aim. The pilot is usualy restrained in vertical moves by his seatbelts (a thing that is very well represented by my FreeTrack-6DoF combo (heck, I can't look down properly... must be the oxigen mask tubes Smile ) and many times the pilot has to aim under some G's which would make very hard (ok, imposible) for him to raise his body to see the gusight completly if it was hystolicaly mounted a bit higher.

We have now 6DoF and is a little let down that we have to "toggle gunsight" many times just to be able to see the whole sight. I became quite proficient with aiming with the FW190 sight (don't run in panic... I can't shoot straight... just aim Big Grin ) but I am anoyed I cant see the sight completly and I have to "lock" my head using "Toggle gunsight" (btw, thanks again sHr for your work Wink ).

We don't need... work arounds like: "toggle gunsights is fine" or "raise in the chair a bit and reset your Freetrack/TIR" we need to solve this odd thing.

Just look at this pictures:

Go-229 (not a very used plane but it shows the issue with a vengeance)

Me-262s

Zeros (one of the early, a bit too low in both positions)

So... what do you think? is there one that agrees with this point and can create a mod?

I understand what you are getting at.. But when I'm flying a Luftwaffe campaign, (Just finished Flatspinmans 109 campaign for the BoB) I never toggle to the other view when using the 6dof mod to use the sight.. I've just finished that campaign with ten kills.. All that was required was to shift my head slightly to get a full view of the reticle.. I don't have a drama with it to be honest. Smile

Trooper117, sure you could shift your head slightly but, in reality you dont shift your head... you just close one eye. Shifting your head upwards at 3Gs in a turn is a bit difficult in reality Wink .

Maddox Games chosed those different positions well intentioned thus, gaving good view in both positions of the gunsight (toggled or not) but, now with the 6DoF it bites back on us bums Big Grin .

When I say shift my head it is the slightest of movements, I'm not straining in any way.. We aren't really sustaining G's, we are just playing a game, so I can live with that tiny inacurracy.. plus, we will never get that 'close one eye' to centre the sight picture because we haven't got the real sight in front of us to actualy get that effect, all we have is a flat computer screen...

Oh, come on Trooper117, we are getting in that "I don't need that" or "I can live with it" thing from the "rearm/refuel/repair discussion thread.

Is about admitting that an issue exist in this and making a mod to solve it. As I said, we shouldn't loose time with "I have a taller chair" etc.

Is the viewpoint not vertically centered on the gun-sight in some of the cockpits? Yes? Can something be done through a mod?

Flippin hell.. Check my post, At no stage does it say 'don't make this mod'.. I'm stating that 'I' can live, with what the game limitations for the 6dof mod has at this moment in time.. I'm giving my constructive point of view as to how I use the mod, and I don't have much of an issue with it, and I don't feel the need to change my point of view when using the sight..
if it's ok for you to post how you use the 6dof mod and what you would like to see changed, is it ok for the rest of us to give our views on how we use it too??
All I've told you is that I don't have a drama with it..... Confusedhock:

 peace man, I didn't said you cannot post your views, I just commented them. I said from the first post that if we agree that an issue exist (and you personally agree that it is) we shouldn't use "workarounds" or drop it because "we can live with it" etc. We are on the main IL-2 Modding Forum, we propose all sorts of things, sure is a small thing... but, because of that we shouldn't drop it all together.

I said that and then commented on your post just because such attitude could stop a moder in to look to that thing because an impression that there is nothing at all in the end... look, people are living with it...

Just take a look at 262 or do335... can you aim with 6DoF? Sure on 109s and FWs the "issue" is much less visible but...

As a side note, which might make some of this arguement void:

From a interview with Luftwaffe Ace, Franz Stigler. Who flew both the 109 (Most, if not all varients), and the 262...

[quote="Franz Stigler"]
[b]On the 109 and the 262, the Revi sights were always mounted slightly to the right

I don't doubt it mate... But I'm simply stating that I can live with it.. I fully understand where Zaelu is coming from too, but in no way rubbished his ideas.
yes, I have to make seat adjustments when flying the 262, and even the early P-47, but it's my way of getting around the limitations..

Maybe a poll would be in order for this mod...
I think I'd enjoy it, but it isn't a big issue for me...just a minor irritation, but in that regard, I think this mod would go down pretty well in the community.
