.DLL Explainations for the less educated among us...
#1

Hi guys...

I've had a look at all these posts discussing the new graphics .dll's, from over the varying sites... and I'm more confused than before....

What is the best .dll for me to get for my set up? I want the best possible graphics...

My specs are:

AMD 64 Athlon 5000+
1gb RAM
8800GT with Zalman cooler
550Watt PSU
19" monitor... (wide)

So whats the best .dll for my cause? I honestly get very confused with all the options, and I know there's some real guru's out there.

Sorry for my ignorance, and stupidy regarding this...

hey,

i don't pretend to know a lot about how these work, but i know your system is not too far off from mine as i also have an 8800 (albeit and early gen 640meg version) and the ones i use right now that work very well are a set i found from march 13th that include an edit to the il2 config file to set it to run better on newer gen nvidia cards such as the 8800 line (i can play it with DCG with massed bombers on at 1680x1050 all options cranked as high as i can get them running at 8x speed with no noticeable drop in performance). i don't know how to do that fancy speedyshare upload stuff, and don't remember where i got them and hate rapidshare but i could email it to you if you wish and anyone else who'd like them Smile.

I have the 130308 dll set update dated 15/4/08 which seems probably better than the "5 dll's" I downloaded here and is much better than the old original ones, my system is pretty basic:

AMD 64 3200
1.5G RAM
ATI x1600Pro 256 shader 3.0
Cat 6.1 is set kinda medium.

In the config ini which I'm still figuring out, I have to keep water down to 1 but landqual and shading is 3, effects are 2, so is sky, forest and land detail. I get frame jumping over water/ground, which is very annoying but the fps so to speak is generally okay. Resolution is manually set to 1280x960 for my 19" widescreen. AA is on through the TexMipFilter=3 and I don't really have any idea what most of the other stuff means or how I should set it.

I really don't like turning down the graphics, I want to turn it up but I'd probably have to upgrade my entire computer which I can afford in like...a year.

The thing that's really killing me atm is that I want to make il2 movies and have been turning more and more onto the idea so now I'm really looking forward to trying it out, then saw the recent competition...have a good story idea...

But with my system as well as being a newby I figure I don't stand a chance Cry

I have tested all five of the .dlls IN THE AAA pack 5_DLL, and the one that works the best with my 8800 GTX 768 are the ones in the "4_409beta_dlls2.rar". The individual files in this.rar are dated 2/4/08.

I am also using the NGO NVIDIA Optimized Driver 1.16369, available here: http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=nvidia

Mine main computer:

AMD 64 3200
2,5 Gb RAM
Nvidia 8500 512Mb GDDR3
Driver is Quadro 160.02

I am using latest dll's though everyone is runing good. Here is my OpenGL in conf.ini, I have set it according to some programmers site. It goes in resolution 1280x960 with no problems.
