Altimeter Gage on Panel working to service ceiling
#1

The P-38 & P-51 have altimeter gages that work up to its service ceiling. All other US Planes have the altimeter lock up at 30,000 feet. This isn't a problem if the speed bar is enabled, but many servers have the speed bar disabled. The P-47 attained its top speed at 30,000 feet and flew above this altitude regularly and it is disappointing that the altimeter quits working like it does. In the Solomon Islands it was common practice for Corsair Squadrons to cruise above 20,000 feet to the target and put one of its flights up at 33,000 feet as high cover just in case the JNAF or JAAF positioned their aircraft at higher altitudes.

Does anyone know how to make it so these altimeters do not lock at 30,000 feet?

Thanks

Yes, I wish there was a fix for this too.

It also happens to the Ta-152H which is kind of hopeless when you consider what it was made for, unless, like you say, you happen to like having "the speedbar" in your face Smile

It might be a start to identify exactly which aircraft are affected...?

Edit:
come to think of it I wish the speedbar would be gone and stay gone when you select the "no speedbar" option. Or just a mod to loose it altogether...anyone?

The speedbar mod allows you to choose none, kph, kias or mph as the default setting when you spawn and speedbar is enabled on a server. You need to cut and paste some lines at the bottom of the config.ini. Here is mine for example.

[Mods]
SpeedbarUnits=2
SpeedbarSpdKMH=1
SpeedbarSpdMPH=1
SpeedbarSpdKnots=1
SpeedbarAltMeters=1
SpeedbarAltFeet=1

2 makes KIAS the default unit of measure when I launch since I fly mostly USN or USMC aircraft. 1 makes the units change by 1 KMH, 1MPH, 1KIAS, 1 Meter and 1 Foot.

I do love shrimping for 190's in a Thunderbolt. Flying lazy eights at around 30k before dropping on some poor fellow that thinks 18000ft is really, really high.
The best bit is when one is on your tail and you can drag them back up past the 30k mark. Eventually they stall out or decide to quit and you can pull a quick reversal and run them down. It's a whole other game up there. Hope a lifelike altimeter gets installed one day, as I never fly on speedbar servers.
