Is it possible to use the pilot mesh as a basis for new ground crews? The detail and mapping is way better and would really add to the overall quality of ground scenes.

I think that LAL_RONE use only static crew from AA,AT,cycles from other ground weapons and this is different mesh ... pilot use for movement one script no AI ... Ground static and movement forces using AI ...maybe is possible replace this mesh as ground forces but it would have bad influence on the speed of the game when will be use many this ground crews ...
off topic slightly but is their a pilot mod to replace the crummy stock pilots in the cockpits and is it possible to create new pilots models like one for fighters one for bombers?
Yes... I believe this IS possible... If I get a chance over the next day or two I will have a look-see, but am in the middle of a move so...
But at anyrate I believe this is more than possible, if not comparatively simple... but I may be wrong.

I'd love to see an improved pilot figure too some day. Flying boots and whatnot.
The nice thing about the game is that the pilot mesh is copied into each plane folder individually. That means you could have German pilot meshes in the luftie kites. RAF in the British ones. US ones in the American etc. The developers may well have intended just such an arrangement, but run out of time.
These days I reckon your average PC could easily handle a pilot figure of twice the detail we have now...
Ye I posted on new pilots, but it didn't generate any interest. I'd like to see some crush capped B-17/24/25/20 pilots.

If you want to use the pilot mesh for new ground crews I first whould make a completly new pilot mesh. Reason:
The original pilot is too big in relation to the planes. The pilot looks like a 2,2m Arnold Schwarzenegger.
