OpenGL and Direct X
#1

Hello, I have a question about these two video settings. When i use openGL the water is brilliant, but my skins that i use (vp_media) are fuzzy/blurry, practically illegible. But when using DirectX, my skins are crystal clear; while my water is really lacking. Does anyone know why this is and how i can fix it?

I had the same problem for the longest time. I posted the question on the Ubi web site but never got an answer. Finally after a couple of years of running in DX because the A/C skins looked sharper I found the reason. Go into the IL2 setup. Under the video tab for OpenGL, make sure the Texture Compression option is set to NONE. Your skins should look sharp as a tack after that.

I just double checked it on my system. It certainly works here. Here is a screenshot of IL2 running in OpenGL with Texture Compression set to S3TC. Note the blurred insignia, squadron code and the "24 volt" placard. The camo edges look more blurred also.

The next image is without S3TC. To my eye and those who have looked at the game running on my system, it looks much sharper. Sorry the images aren't identical, but I think they are close enough to illustrate my point.

Here is what my IL2 Setup looks like. You didn't say what video card or drivers you are using. I have an Nvidia 8800GTS running on 169.21 drivers. I also have the Nvidia control panel setting at "High quality" instead of "High performance". I also use Riva tuner to tweak it further.

Anyway, it works for me. Maybe someone else will see this and have other ideas to help you.
