Problem loading skins into the game.
#1

Hi, I'm new to uploading skins for IL-2, and haven't quite got the handle on it. I've tinkered with skins on various things from games, to just 3d models to make skins or RPs for my games. For the most part I make up skins so hardly are gonna be historically accurate, mainly cause I like to be myself in such games so flying another man's plane doesn't work for me.

What I'm having issues with is getting IL-2 to use my skin. I have it the same size of the voids and skins that come with the game, and saved it as a 16 bit bmp. But it still doesn't show up, so any help here by experience or another thread I missed? I'm using CS3, Photoshop if you wish to know what system I use. Any help would be helpful.

If need be the jpg version of the skin is here, changing it to a bmp is something even paint can do. Link

make sure its saved in the right place, i have a feeling that il2 only accepts 256 colours. Ask Zeppo, he's the man who'd ken all about the secrets of skinning IL2

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

If you use Photoshop go to Image>Mode>Indexed Color... (don't think you need to change any settings)

Then just save as bmp (again don't change any settings)

I've been tinkering myself,

Skins should be saved in 8-bit format (256 colors I believe). This is good to know because if you like to make white backgrounds of little .bmp pics you wish to add to skins go away, it must be in at least 24- bit I think... then all you have to do is change it back when you're done!

I know you're problem is already solved, and I hate to be redundant, but I do suppose it's better than learning the hard way!

Have fun!
