In cockpit sounds

MOD request

When im sixed i often hear the enemy aircraft before i can see them, and so can the enemy when i six them.

I think this is one of the biggest "Bug's" In the game because :
When your flying an aircraft the sound of your engine is almost always louder then aircraft flying close to you.
Secondly Pilots wear headsets which try to block the loud sounds from outside and enable the pilot to hear the radio.

Therefore i think in IL2 when your engine is running the external sound should be alot lower making it impossible to hear other aircraft when you are flying.

I dont know if it is possible to make a mod for this im just asking any modder to give it a look because i dont know my ass from my elbo if modding is concerned.

You are correct in that pilots and crew generally cannot hear other aircraft. I've had the opportunity to fly in a B-17G and a B-25J and I can tell you that the engine noise is absolutely overwhelming (especially in the B-25) and without an intercom system using headphones and microphone a conversation is more like a shouting match.

Here's one thats got me...I could be wrong but this doesn't make sense: with aircraft with opening cockpit canopies, its louder inside AC with cockpit closed than when the cockpit canopy open....
Hmmm it doesn't work that way in my Morgan...although it is noisy both ways...

This is especialy usefull when playing online and on full real servers. People with decent soundcards and headphones can accurately hear when someone is on their six (me included Tongue).

If anyone goes forward with this mod, it might be interpreted as a cheat to some. Wink

Although, I'd like to see it.

Plus, there are ways of setting your sound to acctually hear only your plane. You need to play around with sound settings.

B-25s were the loudest planes one can fly in. Pilots which flew over 75 missions in them ended up with busted hearing afterwards. All because of those two powerful radials placed very near the cockpit...
