So any of you guys fly RC planes?


Recently it has become my hobby in a sence. Whats odd is that i seem to be having more fun crashing my planes then fixing them .

Right now i got a Hobby Zone fire bird freedom and a Sky 2 channel RC helicopter.




My fire bird freedom is currently inside my closet in peices. It took heavy damage after a rough random wind pushed it into a tree. It took 3 crashes to total it. I fixed every thing except the wing which will run me about 10 dollars.


And the Heli. Well one mans garbage is another mans gold (Or some thing like that) I found her in a horrific crash site. 4 hour's and $25 dollars later she was flying again. I needed a new radio, motor and remote.

I highly suggest you ppl get RC planes LOTS of fun!

Don't do it myself but I tried a few years back and made a real mess of it. Brother had an old Magnatila ( basically a Fokker E.III) and at a distance I couldn't tell which way up it was and handed the controls back to him. At the minute he has a 1/6th scale Sea Fury almost ready to fly. Willl try to get some pics of it. The club he used to go to was run by a guy called Smitty (used to run the model shop in Whitley Bay). Apparently he did a lot of the R/C work for the BoB film. He had a Do-17 ready for the film and was testing it at the field but he forgot to unroll the trailing aerial so after a couple of hundred yards he lost control and it was last seen heading out over the North Sea :roll:

i voted 'yes' although thats only partially true. i used to...a lot. my favorite rc airplane (besides scale warbirds) was the Great Planes SuperSportster mkII. i bought two of them in ARF form. and my worst memory was in college while flying at the RC club's field with one of them: I had flown this one for a loooong time and never got a scratch on it. but one day I was using an AM radio setup (my mistake) instead of FM...was coming out of a loop, nose to the ground, and right when i pushed her to full throttle, i got interference from somewhere....total lockout of all control. i distinctly remember actually turning my head the other direction so i wouldnt see it auger in. what a noise! what a crater! and what a time pickin up the pieces! i never flew RC again. besides... flying real airplanes is cheaper!

point being...dont fly with AM (it was a 20 year old setup). in fact i dont even think its legal in the states anymore. i wonder why

i do want to get back into it though.

Thats why im so scared of RC planes and alot more comfortable with the choppers.
The planes are pretty goddamn expensive.

I am currently building an acrobatic RC plane. It will have 4CC four stroke with over head valves.
