Taking on the Jet Bomber
#1

so today the team was being bombed by a lone jet bomber and he got away every single time so this time i decided to get him.

I knew that i would never catch him at level so i gained height and waited, 8 mins later i spotted him and dove.

But he dove and was gaining much speed and it wld seem he wld get away.

so I checked the map and decided my only way to catch him was to catch up by cutting in at high speed on his right as he slowly turned towards base to keep his speed.

as i slowly got closer i knew i wldnt have much time to take the shot so i decided to pull right in front of him!.

the plan was to make him make a choice as he quickly came to my tail he cld either pull up dive or fly straight on regardless of what he wld do i wld still get a shot.

In the end he pulled up to his right and lost a fair bit of speed i then turn yanking the stick hard to my right and opened fire sadly at the time i was in a spit with 2 cannons and 2 50s got some good hits but he got away.

so in short for attacking a jet bomber

1. try and cut him off
2. pull in front of him
3. wait for him to make a move (but beware his back armament)

Two really good jet bomber catchers:

P-47D-27 and Hawker Tempest.

Also, any reason why you leave the "ou" out of would and could and should?

ahh ha ha ha... you'll never catch me in my Blitz  I fly the ar234 quite frequently on the aaa server and whilst I'm not to keen on giving away advice on how to kill it.... height is the key. The only planes that have caused a real problem are the 190's and p47 - and only when they have a significant height advantage. Also it is much slower before dropping the payload, after the dive to target and the bombs are gone it will maintain 430mph at ground level, so not much chance of catching me then

Hey t-stoff.

can't help you with the bombsite, I use the 234 for low-alt ground altitude ground attack - I didn't even know it had a level-bombing site until last week  I imagine it to be much the same as other level bombsites?

On tactics - go very fast... thats about it really. Get as much altitude as you can before entering enemy teritory, if anyone bounces you, enter a shallow dive and you should pull away... If someone dives on you with enough speed to catch you, try to fend them off with the rear guns - they won't have a chance at a 2nd pass if you are moving quickly enough. Fw190s and P47s are the biggest threat.

Aim for the engines. They go up in flames if you hit them, this will lower the speed of the bomber. Also, you might want to try the P-63. You can use the 37mm canon to blow away targets from long range.

Something I learned when flying the A-20 Havoc bomber. It was in an online war against another Squadron. The A-20 is a 100 to a 150 km/h (60 to 90 mph) faster then any Japanese fighter that wanted to intercept us. But it is also twice as heavy. So, if you do anything like pulling up, or making a turn, you loose much more energy then the Japanese fighters and they will catch you in a very short period of time.

I think the same tactics apply to this situation. The jet-bomber should be tricked into manouvring so he will lose energy. This gives the prop-fighters an oppertunity to catch him. Remember, prop driven aircraft can accelerate also faster then jet aircraft in the game. The Jet-bomber that "creamy" encountered, should also have known this, but probably didn't see you anymore and thought it was safe to make a turn.

...you guys are always flying low with that bomber Smile.....few times I've managed to catch it with Fw190D9...Arado was low, maybe 500m....I was at 5000,you can see the exhaust smoke when he hits full throtle Smile....with D9 you can safely maintain 880-890km/h (550-555mph) in dive...and when you level,it takes some time for speed to drop below 700km/h...that's enough to even overtake him.....
