These drivers are brilliant with Win 7 64 bit. I have never been able to get IL2 running stutter free on 3 different XP rigs using perfect settings (regardless of fps in the 150s) but for the first time in 18 months I now have a sliky smooth flying experience.

on overall performance, vista home premium x64, i've noticed a marked improvement from 9.2 with 9.3. V-sync works much better and lots of other features. however for Il-2 still when using openGL in missions it performs great, but after each campaign mission the debriefing screen is still really screwed up like flickering and the buttons, map and cursor disappearing but that's been true since catalyst 9.1...

hmmm... yours should tackle il-2 pretty well... what processor and how much RAM do you have? Also do you use Lowengrins DCG? i found that bogs down performance a lot.

my rig:
Intel Core i7 940 2.93ghz
6gb G.Skill DDR3 1333 RAM
1x Sapphire 4870x2
Thermaltake 850w ToughPower PSU

Concerning those drivers.....

I have an unusual problem. None of the maps will load. the game loads fine but as soon as I try and load a QMB mission/Single mission/Co-oP mission or open a mission in the FMB I get the following message:

"Mission loading failed: Landscape 'Slovakia/load.ini' loading error."

This happens with every map. Same message only the map name changes. Happens with both modded and un-modded versions of the game.

So what did I do you ask? The only thing I did was update my ATI drivers. I had 8.9's installed. I completely cleared out all ATI drivers, CCC, software, folders etc. using both the Uninstall utility and Driver Cleaner Pro. Just like I always do. I updated to 9.3's and the Catalyst Control Center. That's when the problem started. No problems loading/using the web or any other programs, Just IL-2.
The next thing I did was un-install those drivers (as above) and just put in the Display Drivers and ATI Tray Tool. The next time I loaded the game all was well. the colors were gorgeous and I was a happy camper. I went to work and now, after coming home, I reloaded the game and get the same message.

Any ideas?
Want my Dxdiag?

Am I going to have to re-install the game?
Does this have anything to do with the fact that I'm still using XP Pro?

set your catalyst AI to standard - this is a known bug with all 9.x versions of drivers...

Thanks for that info. While I was away trying to fix the problem I learned about that. So I have reverted back to my 8.9 drivers with no CCC. I use ATI Tray Tools now. Smaller footprint, not a resource hog and very, very flexible. You even get a Framerate counter installed in the upper right hand corner of the screen if you want.

Anyway, the game looks stunning again and runs like hot butter in Perfect with 4X AA and Ansio so all is well again in Gotham tonight. Big Grin

Guys, a couple of things:

Quote:i've noticed a marked improvement from 9.2 with 9.3. V-sync works much better

V-sync is a known issue with ATI for Il-2 - you are better turning it off. At least try turning it off once and see if I'm right. Worth 5 mins of your time right?

Il-2 is *CPU locked* - so Crossfire (and SLi for that matter) will not give you much of a performance boost over one good card. Turn Crossfire off and see what I mean. You may actually get a performance increase using only one card.

Catalyst can also be flakey with Il-2, so try running with and without.

The following post is a bit old now, but the principles still apply:

actually i was referring to v-sync in general, not just il-2, sorry should have been clearer on that. i normally keep v-sync at off unless application specifies otherwise. but all my games that use it now run much more smoothly when i have it on than with 9.2.
