These results where made by a proffesional computer scanner ( Star Wars Battlefront  )

Any questions that you ask I will try to answer

I used to have a 2.7 Mhz and it used to run the game fine, can a faulty 2.8 Mhz processor result in IL-2 crashing???

I used to run on a 2800 Barton (AMD) fine, though I did have 2Gb ram, do you have graphic settings too high, try toning them down and see how it goes, and if OK turn up gradually, it is still very playable, even without "perfect" etc. Hope this helps.

at about 90% when a mission is loading, it comes up with somthing about paratroopers ( I know other people have had this but I've never seen an answer)

and the game crashes, when loading a mission or when flying, when flying, it could crash when you know its going to (i.e. flack bursts everywhere) or it does it suprisingly

The game is never slow or jittery, it just crashes without warning

I remember that I once installed a paratroop mod that showed (German) paratroopers sitting in the fuselage of the Ju-52. It was a nice idea but it caused my game to crash as well, even without using a Ju-52 in a mission I believe.

So I deleted that mod - which is just moving/deleting the paratroop mod directory - and all was well with the world again.

I can't remember the name of that mod, but I'll bet 2 to 1 it has the word 'paratrooper' or a variant in it.

By the way - to avoid anxiety attacks and thoughts of despair, it is always a very good and prudent idea to keep a clean, unmodded copy of your game in a very safe place. Keep two copies even, if you have the room on your hd.

That way, when something goes wrong, and it always does sooner or later with our modding mania, you can easily and quickly start anew with your clean copy. Sure you'll have to reinstall some mods again, but that is not much work compared to uninstalling and reinstalling, updating and patching the game again while trying not to forget to backup your skins and missions first. It's like having a comfort blanket or a pre-prepared backup position to fall back on.

No, I don't have anything that says paratrooper in it but I reckon it's related to a cockpit mod that I have but I'm not pointing fingers

Thanks for the idea anyway, I'll put that into practice...

Hi hammond67 ,

Device RADEON 9200 SE Family (Microsoft Corporation)
TnL Yes
Pixel shader 1.4
Vertex shader 1.1
Driver ati2dvag.dll
Version 6.14.10.6462
VendorId 4098
DeviceId 22884
Memory 128.0 MB

I used to play few years back with Ati Radeon 9200 256MB PCI version
and it was somewhat ok with the older versions of IL2 up to Forgotten Battles
but since IL2 1946 version , there is no way you can play 1946 version with this card
which is even slower than was mine back in time as you have SE slower edition
unless you're playing low resolution excellent settings .

My was one of the last modified Radeon's 9200 series with new processing stuff:

Ati Xtasy 9200 256MB PCI
240MHz Core
256MB DDR Memory
128-bit memory Interface !! ( that was something fast many years ago  )
Memory Clock: 200MHz ( 400MHz DDR )
4 rendering pipelines
1.1 bilion pixels per second ( Wow !! comparing to these days cards )
Fully programmable pixel and vertex shaders
Hi-RES 32-bit , 3D Gaming up to 2048x1536
DirectX9

It could run Forgotten Battles game version in perfect settings with water only @ 1
pretty comfortably but IL2 1946 must be a murder fo such a slow 9200 SE card .
Even thou I've had PCI version , it was better rendering power and it easily
kept up with AGP older 9200 Radeons .

If you're getting many crashes , it's also likely due to 9200 SE card unable to cope with
such graphics demand from IL-1946 not to mention mods .

I am sorry hammond67 , I know what it took to play even wih more powerful modified
Ati Radeon 9200 back in old times

Another thing is:
RAM
Total 512 MB

That is next to nothing , XP need almost that much RAM just to ba able to be running .
System need some serious updates at least more RAM if nothing else .

Sincerely,
HolyGrail
