When the host of a carrier based coop mission has the 1.1.1 patch installed, the game is unplayable due to extremely low frame rates - as low as 1 or 0. The same missions run well when the host does not have the 1.1.1 patch installed. Any ideas why this is happening?
well, first, what pc are u using, and try to decrease the video quality of the game.
thanks for the quick reply..
actually it's happening on at least 3 different high end PC's .. nvidia 8000's or simliar, dual or quad core processors, and at least 2 GB or more of high end ram, and plenty of network speed.. all three have been hosting missions for years with out a problem this severe. ( sorry don't know specifically what each has) but they all usually run at about 60+ frames with their settings.. some modded maps have dropped frames to 40 or so when looking at certain parts of them, and there's no real complaint there cuz the game is still playable..... but a drop to 1 or 0 sounds like it is too much for a change in vid settings to correct... unless set to minimums... which really isn't a viable option.. i know it can be annoying when you offer a trouble shooting option and the person asking for help says no, not gonna try that.. and i'm sorry about that, but if you have another suggestion i'm all ears. So far the only fix we have found so far is to run from a backed up copy of the game that doesn't include the 1.1.1 patch
One guy had the problem, we thought it must be something in his PC.. then another , then another found the same problem.. could be just certain maps.. or certain planes.. we'll continue to try and narrow it down to something more specific on our end, too.. i was able to host a carrier mission with the 1.1.1 patch on my mid range pc with no change to vid settings.. so it's not everyone, but enough instances now that it seems to be something to be concerned about.
thanks again.
I'm running an AMD64 2400 cpu with 8800gts video card. I host the games where 4 or 5 of us play. We've seen no problems with coop carriers.
could be the number of players we usually have that's part of the problem.. 8 live players is a small mission for us, usually between 12 and 20 breathers, and often enough up to as many as 28..
thanks for commenting.. never know what little piece of info might lead to an answer.
biggest killer of fps in coops are the amount of AAA from ship battles. Not even if your in the area, just on the same map. The host pc may be getting overwhelmed with other aircraft in combat as well. I know it sounds silly but it has effected my pc when I build a coop with too much action at one time. The best advise I can give is to limit ship AA and stager the engagements so they don't all happen at the same time.
I run carrier coops with UI 1.1.1 and don't see any difference in frame rate. I doubt your problem has anything to do with UI 1.1.1.
Aviar
thanks for pitching in with your observations.
Here's why i suspect it's the 1.1.1..
Mission is built.. host #1 runs it fine in 1.1.0..
same host installs 1.1.1, hosts the same mission, and total slide show for the host, and lag for everyone else.
same host switches to backed up copy of 1.1.0.. and the mission plays just fine...
When it happened to 1 host, we thought it must be something either corrupted or he didn't install properly..either way, a problem with his files.
Then it happened to a second host with another carrier mission.. exactly the same scenario.. had run the mission before in 1.1.0 with no problems, then the second host installed 1.1.1 and that mission went to slide show and lag for everyone.
Then a third host installed 1.1.1 and had the same problem.. haven't seen him since.. but it was just a day ago.. so i am guessing he's reinstalling his game.
I also have the 1.1.1 and was able to run one of the carrier missions i have, not one of the ones that was having problems.. BUT I have just received the mission that was problematic for host #2... going to try hosting that mission from my machine tomorrow night. I'll let you know what we find out.
It very well could be just a certain map, or plane set, or anything else mission specific.. maybe it will run on my machine.. If it does, then i'll look more at their machines and installations for a root cause.
I thought it was a machine specific problem until i saw the problem repeat on 3 different machines.. but running the same mission that caused a problem on one of the other machines on my computer (that is able to run at least one carrier mission well) should give me a better idea of where to look.
thanks again.. i'll let you know what i find out tomorrow night.
thanks for your comments, all. You were correct in saying that it is not 1.1.1 mod specifically causing the problem.
I was able to run the problem mission with 12 breathers and no frame problems..
So i'll now look to the three that are having the problem hosting and report back if i can find a common added mod or disabled mod in their games and let you know.
Moderator of this board may want to delete this thread so as not to cause any undue concern about the 1.1.1. and carrier misions.
Or leave it up, and if i can find the cause ( added or disabled mod) I'll post it here.
thanks again.
