After a long and exhausting pursuit, spending all his cannon ammunition, squadron leader Goa Tse finishes off this Hurricane MkII by a few small caliber bullets in the engine. Top screenshot is original, all others modified.

Oh yes we all would, wouldn't we?

Although I tried a program that alters contrast and color settings of the graphics, and decided that it was quite annoying, as one started to lose detail with those kind of 'artistic' colour settings.

Make a copy of your pic, either seperate or as another layer. Then play with one version and overlay the unchanged original. Mix the layers as you like and repeat as needed. Playing around with masks can sometimes give you a way of preserving details. Jusrt experiment a lot.
