When I try to load the new maps in full mission builder, it just fails and the blue screen appears. I try again few times and the map finally loads. IL2 even closed once. is this normal? and is there anyway to fix it?

Did you try with 4.09?

For the 4.08 Version run the Maps:
Kt_East Africa
Map Sardegna
vol_ItalyAfricaGreece
RD_Malvinas
and the Normandy Map with the Coast of Britain
