I built my last system from recommendations on this boards.

Thought it would be worth it to do a repeat.

This time I'm building from scratch.

I plan for the following:

A new box, power supply,motherboard,processor,8gig ram,HDD,Monitor,etc.

In other words a clean start from scratch with no carryover from previous system.

I built the last system with a ABit Pro 35 mobo, E6600 processor, 4Gig ram, single 8800 GTX 512 Nvidia VC, 900 Acer case, 750Watt PS.

The best part is all the web sellers were pushing the 9800 and SLI stuff.

BigSilverhotdog recommended a single PCI-E card, along with a complete shopping list a very excellent recommendation.

I work in a small office 10x10. If I had bought SLI the computer would probably have generated more heat than the one I have.. Whew!

I don't know, if I could have withstood the heat.

Anyway, I'd sure appreciate some help for my shopping list. I plan to assemble it myself.

I'm just not up on all the latest whiz bang gamer computer system technology.

There does seem to be a new 120hz monitor and nVidia components that will do 3D, which sound interesting to me.

Anyway, I will sure appreciate suggestions.

I'm looking at around $2,000 USD with monitor

Allowing $300 for monitor LCD 120hz Samsung or Viewsonic.

I'm thinking the 3D has strong possibilities, not for Il2 of course.

1 HDD will do the job 400-500Gig

I should have no problems running IL2 now. Should be a sinch on a dense city on a 1:1 scale map with 100+ planes & flak ... But then again I was trying to keep the price down too ... there is obviously better out there.

This build I am doing is the best gaming system I can get on a budget ...

Now there are a couple of places you could save some money with this build.

The PSU is a bit of overkill, but would allow for going to Crossfire in the future. If you are NEVER going to go to Crossfire, then the Corsair 620HX would be the better choice.

The Sound card is also a bit of overkill, if you don't need/want that there are cheaper cards that have the same sound quality. I happen to like the 5.25 bay output, as it allows ne to easily set mic gain and headphone volume.

The HDD is a bit larger than you speced, but with as cheap as HDDs are these days, there is no reason not to have the extra storage.

Note that this system is based on GAMING performance only. In high resolution/quality GAMING, it will perform just as well as the highest end Intel i7. Including the i7 $999.99 (at newegg) i7-975 Extreme Edition.

Now, if you are going to be a LOT of things like Image processing, 3D modeling, etc, then an Intel i7 processor based system would be better as the i7s clearly outperform the Phenom IIs in those applications.

The only problem with this build, is that AMD/ATI are going to be releasing the 5xxx video cards which will be DX11 capable in the very near future. Most likely in October when MS releases Win 7. Preliminary reports are that the 5xxx series cards are going to give a huge increase in performance over the current generation of cards. If you don't ABSOLUTELY have to have a new system right now, and can wait for a month and a half or so, I'd advise you to do so.
