Depends which mods you want to install. If I was you, I would start with Unified Installer and patch 1.1 of that. Don't forget to patch your game to 4.08.
If you want to add mods, read the topics in the propper sections and read the readme files that are mostly included in the downloads of the mods.
Try out things and let us know when things don't work.

Copy everything..Original Il-2 install,patches , downloads, various working versions of games..Read readmes..do maps one at a time & use all.inis religiously.Get used to CTDs at 60% or at 70% and know most problems occur because of problems in STD or in Files or in non updated "Buttons " in Files...Did I mention copy & save everything...and oh when 1.2 AAA install is available get ready to do everything again!
