Can't get IL2 version switcher to work
#1

I just installed the 1.2 mod pack and most stuff works ok. But I can't get the version switcher to work. It's in my IL2 mod game folder and I made a desktop icon for it. It is pointing to the place where it's at correctly but when I click on it I get a 'failure to initialize' error. Do you click on it before or after HL is up and running? Although I tried it both ways and I get the same thing. I'm at a loss.

Please check if you have installed NET Framework und you Computer. The IL-2 version switcher works with NET framework.

If you do not want to install NET Framework, you also can use the version switcher .bat files in the main modded gamefolder.

Their name is:

_Switch-408_Mods_On.bat
_Switch-408_Mods_On_With_6DOF.bat
_Switch-408_No_Mods.bat
_Switch-409_Mods_On.bat
_Switch-409_Mods_On_With_6DOF.bat
_Switch-409_No_Mods.bat

I don't know how to check for NET framework. Usually it installs with Windows unless you tell Windows install not to install it. The bat files did not work either but I'd like to know how the bat files know where the heck your installs are located?? I have four installs on two different drives. I have 4.08m and 4.09b1 ( 1.2 mods ) both under Ubisoft folder under Program files on my C:\ drive.

On my E:\ drive I have 4.09m and old install of 4.08m with a few non-unified mods on it. The 4.09m is under Ubisoft folder and Program Files like it's supposed to be but the old 4.08m modded is under Ubisoft folder but is not under Program Files, just C:\ drive itself.

Go into your main game folder where you can find your .bat files

In this main game folder you can see a folder called

_Game Switchers

in this folder called _Game Switchers you can find 6 folders called:

4.08 Mod ON (NO 6DOF)
4.08 Mods 6DOF ON
4.08 Mods OFF (Original)
4.09 Mods 6DOF ON
4.09 Mods OFF (Original)
4.09 Mods ON (NO 6DOF)

In this 6 folders you can find the necessarily data and files you will need to switch your game version

If you do not have the folder _Game Switchers with its sub folders and data in your main game folder you are not able to work with the version switcher and you are not able to work with the .bat files

I found the _Game Switcher folder and it has the sub-folders and each have a il2fb.exe file in it. But what is that gonna do?? If you click on an il2fb.exe or another program does when they are located in these folders, it won't do anything at all. I still don't understand. Maybe I'm just a dummy........

If we have a look at the contents of one it will tell us what it's going to do.. for example if you open _Switch-408_No_Mods.bat (right click and select edit) it looks like this;

Code:
Echo Off
copy "_Game Switchers\4.08 Mods OFF (Original)\*.*" /Y
cls
echo 4.08 Mods OFF (Original) Enabled
pause

Now all this says is that when executed (you double click on the .bat file) it will copy the contents of the 4.09 Mods OFF (Original) folder and paste it in the IL2 root folder, overwriting if necessary.

The 4.09 Mods OFF (Original) folder contains 2 files..files.sfs and il2fb.exe, these are copied to your game root folder and you will have a stock 4.08 game when you fire it up in your normal manner (generally from double clicking a desktop icon).

The same process happens when you select any of the other batch file to run ie if you select _Switch-409_Mods_On.bat then when you fire up the game you will have the 4.09 modded game without 6DOF.

So the shortened version of this is open windows explorer, navigate to your game folder and double click on the corresponding .bat file of the game you want...close windows explorer....start the game from your desktop icon and it should be the version you've just switched to.

If you want to check to see if the .Net stuff is installed on your computer, go to your control panel and double click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon and when the list populates scroll down and look for an entry that says something along the lines of "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2"

Hope this helps

Cheers
