Century Series: possible?
#1

Hi guys- I did a search based on Century Series here and came up with nothing, so here goes:

With talented people like Flak, PeterD and Ranwers (and others) making jets from the 1950's, I am still sort of unclear as to the limitations of the game engine-
what I was wondering if it were possible to model
- F 100D
- F 102 Delta Dagger
etc, like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_Series

Now, please don't flame me if this has been asked in a different way before  . Just was wondering if such were possible at all. Tongue

The way its going, I could see something like this develop. We are already seeing the WWI and alot of the cold war eras.

The game engine cant handle supersonic speeds and people have usually given answer "no" to Vietnam war era planes.

Anything is possible. It's just that it would take a huge amount of code writing to include transonic and supersonic environment/aerodynamic variables. If you are willing to learn java code I can point you in the starting direction but it would most likely end up being a completely separate game by the time you are done and incompatible with the current game without a year or two of testing. And don't forget that all this would have to be done for free on a volunteer basis to avoid infringing on copyrights.

It would be very cool though..... Big Grin

For supersonic speeds, you have to edit the game engine, if you modify that everything stops working because they are coded for the original engine.

Well, I don't think going supersonic is impossible in the current IL2 engine. "How is that?", you ask. Well, in a word, SABRE. PeterD said it would do over Mach 1 and while flying with a bunch of guys who do a lot of missions in the KTO map, I can say I have routinely taken the F-86 passed the sound barrier. So I guess to say the game engine can't do it somewhat of a misstatement, because it is being done.

When I first started here, I too said many of the same things, but people continued to build acft anyway that pushed the limit of the game engine. Now we have the F-86 and the MiG-15.

I say, let them try. Push this puppy. Let's see just what she's capable of. So far the only thing not codeled for supersonic flight is the sonic boom and shockwave. We of course, do not know if doing Mach 2 is possble for the engine, but let's find out.

Supersonic is not just a number. No one said the Il-2 engine would cause any aircraft that passes the threshold to instantly explode. Simply, flight model for supersonic speeds is totally unrealistic. I'd be very surprised if the Sabre or MiG behave at all realistically in this sim approaching or passing the speed of sound.
