Yes they will, Big Grin

I started out with asteam copy of IL2 1946, (but like the game so much that I got the DVD version as well).

The steam copy will download allready patched to version 4.08 if you want to "mod" your version you will need to install this first (The link is inoperative) (please follow the instructions on that link)

After you have installed that you will be able to install some mods.
IMO: I would start with the UI 1.1 and see how you get on with that.

Hope that this is helpfull to you Smile.

PanzerFodder: 'Stomach Battalion' wouldn't be a reference to CoH would it? Big Grin

As for steam, beaware that it does update games automatically, so it'd go up to v4.09, which currently the UI doesn't work with, although we will change that with the patch 1.2.5.

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

About what you said PanzerFodder, i have the steam version and i didn't get that direct2drive patch... i'm guessing it's only for people who have downloaded the game from direct2drive so if you have the steam you wont need it.

Steam is still 4.08 and from what i've heard there is no push from anyone to go to 4.09. After I patched to 4.09 manually, it replaced my il2.exe which no longer references Steam which effectively keeps me from having to have the program open when I play. Thats a good thing in my book. All I use my Steam account for is online storage of my game dvd.

Once you patch to 4.09, there is no problem with anything.

Yes it is a reference to CoH

Right then back on topic.

The steam version will download from steam as version 4.08, if you want to install mods you need to install the direct2drive fix as it works the same for the steam copy as it does for the D2D version of the game. (you just unpack it to your IL2 1946 directory, so that part is very easy, BTW: it will overwrite a couple of files and will ask if you want to do this, just click YES TO ALL).

What you install next is up to you, but I have been playing a bit on the WOP server "spits v 109s mod" so I have to have UI 1.2 instaled to connect, so for me I did it in this order

1: Downloaded a virgin copy of steamed IL2 1946.
2: Installed the D2D fix to my IL2 main game directory (The link is inoperative)
3: Installed the UI 1.1 mod and then fired up the game to make sure it was working.
4: Downloaded the UI 1.2 patch and installed it over the top of UI1.1.
5: Made a short cut for the switcher to my desk top ( if you start the game from the switcher when you want to play, it will bypass the steam short cut and you will not have to have steam running in the background while you are playing Big Grin ).
6: I then had to install the Russian lang fix as all my mission text was in Russian.(have a look for this fix in the 4.08 mods part of this site).

if you intend too play online you may find that you cant see the mission brief, this is because the steam version has a missing "Cache" file it is easy to fix by just making a new folder and call it "cache" place it in the "NET" folder that is found inside the "missions folder" as I said very easy to fix once you know what the problem is.

Moving on now....

The DVD copy of IL2 1946 that I have is now patched up to the official version 4.09, IMO it's a better buy than the steam version (I got it from E-Bay for $8.99 + shipping) so this may be a better way for you to go Smile.

Anyway let us know how you get on with this lot
