Silly optimising question
#1

Hi all,

After much time and dispear over optimising my rig to get the best graphics and performance settings, With a great help from SVHAK over many emails I must say. I came to wonder can all this hassle that obviously everyone has to some degree or another be solved by someone making a program to do this automatically ? It must be useable on anyones setup whatever the rig ?
I am still changing and tweaking every few days wondering and experimenting to see if I can reach that unachievable tradeoff of perfect settings and stuttering hell.
The idea I have is and I am not even sure if it is possible is to have a program that you can install .It reads your rigs specs for every game or program you run, Ram ,Graphics card, CPU etc and optimises your computers settings automatically to ring out the last little bit of performance that you can achieve while maintaining brilliant gameplay without stutters.
The problem I have and I am sure I am not alone is how far can I push my computer ? I seem to spend more time setting up the game settings than to actually flying the sim, am I the only one with this issue....did'nt think so !
This is where I stop , I haven't the skills or knowledge to even contemplate such a thing. I just wanted to start some discussion to ,A- see if its possible and B- Has it been done before and if so where do I get the program ?

Thanks for any input on this and happy flying.

Do you mean a program like nHancer or some other type of program?I found if a guy sets it up right nHancer will suck the guts out of your computer to get the game to look good but I'm running Nvidia graphics cards to,I don't know what you have.

I've got a nvidia 8600 gt card, I've tried to get Nhancer to work on my system but to no avail. Vista seems to stop it from doing its thing.
I mean even setting up the confini for you as well as graphics. A one stop setup with no fiddling necessary.

Cheers

Nvidia has their own toolkit, which lets you overclock/manually control fan speed, and actually stores the settings in profiles, letting you set conditions like "when IL-2 starts, set mem clock to X, set GPU & Shader clock to Y, and run the fan at Z%. Getting the max settings for your particular card (and i have the same one) is trial & error, so something like EVGAPresission (google it) helps. It's the most user-friendly tweeking app, at least to me.
As far as writing a single set-up app for IL-2, how would it know just what's important to you - frame rates, level of detail, 'purty water, land detail, etc. Do you fly against a few planes, or tons of planes, ships, AA guns? In short, since there's no single "best" setting, using such an app would be just as complicated as tweaking individual settings (if you want a minimal number of settings, just use the Hardware Setup).
Besides, most people "tweak" things for fun - from overclocking 'puter boxen to building fast cars. There's a much easier way, if the process is not fun - spend a fraction of the time (i) spend on "tweaking" working a minimum-wage job, and buy faster gear.
