French regiments Part One (The Air Army):

French regiments Part Two (Navy):

French regiments Part Three (Vichy):
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=28727
Note: It takes some two escadrilles to make a unit about the size of a squadron. Each of these half size squadron has an unique insignia which is
provided here, mostly in Part One.
The french groups which during the thirties comprised from 6 to 10 escadrilles, were being down-sized to four escadrilles when the war broke out.
( This was probably an effort to create more groups out of the excess units, and eliminate units with obsolete types of aircraft's as well...).
( There was also the problem of concentrating new machines being delivered, since they were generally allocated to every existing unit in need...)
Each pair of escadrilles were almost always deployed at the same location. Therefor if a different location is offered, it is a different location in time, and both applies to the pair.
But the other pair in a group, could be deployed very distantly: like anywhere at home, or in the most exotic and different colonies.
Sometimes, especially with night fighters groups , the four escadrilles earned the status of been independent units each to be deployed separately;
in that case they received new designations, but retained their original insignia's.
