Mig-3 cockpit fix and less distracting Hud Log available...

Hello,

I have two mods ready:

First, Il-2 uses the Mig-3U cockpit for the Mig-3 2xUB and 2xShVAK. This is not only unhistorical but the internal and external models' canopy frames don't match. I have a couple of files that fix this through swapping the original Mig-3 cockpit in.

Second, I have an example "Hud log" text file. You remember the pulsing text that sits in front of your eyes even while flying full real? This file removes common non-essential messages (eg. throttle position) and simplifies essential ones (eg. radiator position, engine temperature) to single letters or arrangements of dots. This massively improves immersion for me (especially with external view disabled). The file used for this mod is already accessible for editing in text format for those people with the english sound mod and can be easily customised.

Both mods have been sent to MrJolly some time ago but I am not sure when or if they will be posted. So I thought I would offer them to any other file hosts or interested individuals. S!

id prefer not posting cockpit swap mods - ive already posted you a pm sometime ago regarding this (cockpit swap) ROSOBORONEXPORTCORP :wink: you may post it here if you choose - there are some mods i just dont want to add to the mods download section which are quick & easy - if there is much more demand for this then ok i will post it to mod-download but then where do i draw the line if any ? please use this area to upload beta's & test files & then like i say if anything is in demand then i will post it to mod-download - ROSOBORONEXPORTCORP like i say i did post you pm some time ago & i had discussed this mod with the rest of our group & we all thought back then that it was best leaving this sort of mod out & left for people to do themselfs as we could end up with just too many mods that are very simple too. Its a grey area & im still not sure how to deal with it - perhaps we have another page of downloads im not sure? i dont want to discurrage people from submiting there mods here but at the same time im not sure where to draw the line with certain mods ?

you may say but your 'cockpit swapping' but i am adding cockpits where there was not before.

Thank you ROSOBORONEXPORTCORP! 8) Your mod is very appreciate .. there are people like me that even that some mods are simple for some people to do..however they are difficult to people not-familiar with mods like me safdly.. It might be simple, but it's still valuable I think. Big Grin

For me, this forum is about:

1) Making IL2 more historically accurate wherever possible
2) Providing new content that will never be released by 1C (I turn a blind eye to deficiencies here in the expectation that techniques will become more refined).

This mod passes the test as far as I'm concerned.

Personally, I don't understand why a mod being quick and easy should be used as a criteria to reject it. Most people haven't a clue how to do what this mod does, but it corrects one aspect of the game.

Another poster suggested sorting the mods out eventually into broad categories like planes, maps, GUI, effects etc. and then subdivisions if necessary. A new page with connecting links might be a good idea if the numbers of mods continues to mushroom. :wink:

falco dont get me wrong - there is no need to undeerline as to say to me that im wrong - its difficult being in my position so try to think about that. :wink: mmm i think someone is taking a dig a little old me :wink:

im not saying you cant post it & im not saying some people cant do this + im not saying this mod is no good -its just i dont want to add evrything to mods download section if i did it might get messy with mods that half work ect - if you really want me to post this mod then i allready said i will if people want me to - like i say im trying to please people but at the same time as keeping the mods section easy for everyone to get stuff that dosnt confuse them -

No-one is rejecting it - did i say its a reject because i didnt personly want it in the mods section - like i said i would post it if you all want it - thats all you have to say + you can post anything here

Regards to not having stuff thats quick & easy - is because we would end up with hundreds of mods of something say like different smoke effects that could easily be made by people with just say simple instructions on how to edit the effects themselfs - i mean do you think we should have a mod for every different colour of smoke that there is :wink:

so is this mod making the sim more accurate is that what youre saying if so then ok

& yes we are going to sort the mods out into cats eventually we decided this some time ago just havnt got round to it yet - this means that we can have a lot more mods of different types here without the problem of vetting stuff

So if you guys want me to post it please just say that you want it in the mods section Smile

Thank you Falco and Username, I am glad to see you like them. :wink: I am going to follow up on uf_josse's lead regarding object durability and rocket dispersion and then consider moving back to 4.05 if it is feasible (and I learn Java fast enough!).

No worries here, I recognise the need for regulation (although I suspect there is a fine line before another site may spring up to circumvent AAA just as AAA circumvents the main forums).

I posted these as I new you had some doubts (although I am still not entirely clear one them) and suspected that you were sitting on the submissions. So, I simply chose to make them available to anyone interested (at least as a low distribution via. e-mail).

As for the mods themselves I will offer these rationales:

1. The Hud Log text is easy to do. I wouldn't have bothered submitting a copy of so rudimentary a mod except for a simple fact. It isn't easy to do unless you know that you can do it and it took me a week or so of looking about before I noticed the file. By submitting the mod I could alert people to the possibility of editing this files and also suggest the innovation of using a "brevity code" of dots to reduce clutter.

2. Regarding the Mig-3 cockpits:
- My assumption is that the reason for your caution is that I am editing an existing airplane that is already flyable. I can see the reason for banning all modifications to existing aircraft, especially in cases such as my earlier suggestion of a reduction of the TRD's thrust and other changes to the jets (something I have held off on doing).
- If we ignore the "taboo", it is clear that swapping cockpits is much less invasive than adding new cockpits to AI aircraft (which can do things like change field of fire) or modifying the shapes of aircraft (eg. the questionable fairy battle and Cr-32 experiments).

In the mods defense:
- As you can confirm, the changes made were of a single character in the class file (something that is easy to do, although it requires the use of the right tools).
- The exterior and interior models do not match (this is an oversight by 1C)
- What is known about these variants would suggest that they are a mixture of field and factory retrofits to standard versions (and thus would have a pre-Mig-3U canopy)
- The canopy actually reduces visibility, so it is not a cheat

I give full permission for these mods being posted and submit them to your able judgment. If the judgment is a negative I will still distribute the mods but will do so separately from AAA (so you won't have to worry about it)

yes im sure its in the pipe & thats the cool thing about the net.. but please remember im not stopping people from posting anything they want here in discussion area! so why is there a need to 'circumvent AAA' ? we are after all trying our best here & are putting things to a vote if nessesary - we are trying to make this a place where the people decide what they want to happen here & im personly putting 100% into this so im sure that in its self is hard to beat :wink: please do let me know if there is something you think you change about this place or could be improved & we'll put it to everyone & see what comes from it :wink:

ROSOBORONEXPORTCORP - ive tried this mod & it dosnt correct the internal / external model problem - it replaces it for another cockpit which dosnt match the external model :? so what im saying is both the default cockpit & the one you have swapped it with both dont match with the external model so what is the point to this - sorry but can you please just show me what its supposed to correct thankyou

Wow, this is interesting. Apparently I didn't like the mig-3U cockpit so I didn't fly the 2xUB and 2xShVAK versions. The articles I read indicated that the twin gun setups were the norm on some production runs and the aircraft were otherwise standard Mig-3s.

So, I had never noticed the second glass plate in the cockpit until you pointed it out to me. That said using the Mig-3 cockpit is more accurate (if you look at the way the fuselage is cut pre-Mig-3U migs had slightly worse downward visibility). If I get time I may try modifying the cockpit internals but I suspect there is a bit of a learning curve.

So, this mode only increase accuracy by something like 60%... and I certainly feel like the fool in this affair.
