Adding extra squadrons?
#1

In my attempts to add extra playable nations I MAY have stumbled onto the method to add squadrons instead. This will require further investigation and if I'm correct it will also reguire LOTS of typing of file names for the filelist.txt......... so don't expect anything soon............ and I may have to do it in stages. Will keep you posted.

My squad did it no problem, all we did is got into the Regiments folder and create anewfile with note pad. Then we looked at the other files and copied that lay out changing the letters as we went along. Then all we did was add the squadron insignia and it worked. How ever.....This only works online.I'd be interested if youcan get to work offline too.Good Work! Make a copy of any of the regiment 1KG files.

Rename it Whatever - it has no suffix

edit the contents in notepad to read.

country = GB (what ever country)
id = MG (or rather anything you want here...)
gruppeNumber = 1
short = RAF662 (the same name as your bmp image you are using for badge)
info = RAF662CFSG (what ever here)

That should do ya

It's great having 602 'City of Glasgow' squadron in the game with the LO codes, but a shame that it shows as 601 'County of London' squadron. I'd rather have 602 than 601 being a Glaswegian, but of course why not have 601 as well, or 603 for that matter.

Nice work, especially if you can get new squadrons in the FMB list.

The idea is to have this facility for offline i.e. FMB. If my theory is correct (will carry out testing over the weekend if life doesn't interfere) I will compile a mod for the Allied side first, test this and send it to Mr. Jolly. After that the Axis. But as I said, it will require lots of typing so send me a secretary ..... female and blonde of course Big Grin

Partial success! I have been able to correct 243 Squadron's code to "WP" Big Grin but not been able to add a squadron yet. But my theory seems to be correct. Now to discover what I have not done correctly when trying to add a squadron........

It would appear that apart from making new squadron files (easy enough in Notepad), it is also necessary to update the scroll-down menus in QMB and FMB in order to obtain new selectable squadrons. At the moment this is, unfortunately, beyond me. What can be done at the moment is adding the correct squadron codes, where necessary, for RAF squadrons which are now in the sim. For now I will be making new files for some (mainly Dutch) squadrons in the hope that somebody will take this project over, and also compiling the basics of an Axis file based on the squadrons currently in the sim.

You need to add the squadron definition in PaintSchemes/squadrons.ini as well in order to be shown in squadron selection menu.

I'm afraid you've lost me. What I have done so far is add a new folder containing the individual squadron files plus .tgas (PaintSchemes/Red since I'm dealing with Allied squadrons first), and also the file names to the filelist.txt (e.g. PaintSchemes/Red/100GvIAP, PaintSchemes/Red/100GvIAP.tga etc). This enables me to edit the squadron info somewhat (such as correcting RAF squadron codes where necessary- though NOT changing the squadron info) but adding new squadrons by adding a file to the folder plus the file name to the list does not add the squadron to the pull-down lists in QMB, or to the squadron list in FMB. Could you PM me with an explanation?

You can get new squadrons for offline, except Dgen. If you create a new squadron you can use that unit in QMB and FMB, even DCG campaigns but not with DGen.

The solution is in this post:
