Hi Pirate,

I can confirm that the download version of 1946 does not allow mods. I bought the download through Ubi---twice! The download didn't work correctly and gave me a trojan (a real one, not a false positive) to boot. I was getting no satisfaction from Ubi or their help desk, and ended up buying a second download--through Ubi from a different site. This was in October/November 2007 before I had investigated this website and the mods. After I did, I tried to mod and no joy. The admins here eventually confirmed that the download version is protected against modding.

I found a DVD off ebay for about $20. So I ended up paying about $60 US for 1946 and the abilitiy to use all these fine mods....worth every penny!

I can't answer any of your other questions...but good luck!

I have the same problem and unfortunately there seems to be no remedy. I have tried just about every fix I can think of and have had no luck. I did manage to get the game to load 100% by replacing some files but it crashes soon after.

I believe it has something to do with the files.sfs file as I can not seem to open it using the sfs extractor utility. I had a friend send me their files.sfs file and the utility worked fine but it does not work on the download version files.sfs file. I also tried to replace my files.sfs file with the one my friend sent me and it will not work.

I am convinced that a fix to this problem could be found if the right ppl put their mind to it but nobody seems to want to take on the challenge. I have resigned myself to hoping that some future patch will make the D/L version moddable.

I'd just torrent the DVD, you have payed your money for a license to this game, I don't think anyone can argue against this course either morally or legally (since you don't own the DVD either, you just own a license to the software). You paid to have this game, the source of the data onto your hdd is irrelevent.

I've ordered my second DVD copy few months ago ( local online store).... waited two and half months for delivery . When it finally came .... there was warning message on DVD cover : " ....contain software that can damage hardware ...." .... didn't even bother to install it ... picked a phone , ordered pirate copy and received clean copy after just two days .... go figure .

and two and half months for delivery i 'mean .... new car gets delivered in shorter period
