Remember that scene in Appollo 13...

...where a bunch of stuff identical to what was in the capsule was dumped on a table and the NASA engineers were told to configure a CO2 scrubber from it all?

Well, can anyone take this stuff:

and make a downed pilot in dye-stained water with a shooting flare for pilot rescue missions?

One problem will be that the oil stain "floats" a couple of feet above the water:

But with a little judicious placement, that can be overcome:

Of course, I'm sure the big problem will be how to fire the flare....is there a way of making one of the artillery weapons invisible yet fire off a round every so often...or we could at least use the time out function when making missions to coordinate it with the nearby presence of the search aircraft.

Just spit-balling here, in the hopes that someone bites on it

I put the bright white light in the pilot's hand, and then use the skinny white smoke right above that to simulate a flare. It can be seen from a fair distance, and the smoke really helps the PBY pilot get close without outside views. The thing is, you don't want to taxi into that poor devil because the slightest touch causes your plane to explode!!

I tried to re texture the oil splat several times without success....don't know why it wouldn't take any colour other than black....maybe the tga isn't the problem...maybe it lies in the mat file???

Maybe better for ships ?

could you use the nebelwerfer projectile as a flare, if the velocity is slowed down and smoke trail recoloured?
