Mod analyser
#16

Even if there was a analyser, which I pointed out in my earlier post (apparently which is beside the point :rollSmile Even if such a program/utility was assembled, it would be pathetically useless. The problem is what the hell is it going to scan for? Ok sure, set it to scan for weapon files.... Yes ok, now it picks up said files, but what is it going to compare it with? a Stock file? Yes that works fine, until you look at the fact that that person could have new aircraft installed. Bugger, now that doesn't work.

Lets try Flight model. Which flight model? Ok say the Me-210's. Oops now, you have the 410 installed, based off a modified 210. You cannot join. This is presuming you have it searching for these particular files extracted from the .sfs, and within the Mod folder, which would be pointless given these issues. The only other option is having it open and scan those files for certain data entries. Now we have an issue with load time etc, and even then - it would need to be updated almost weekly with updated data from new mods. It just isn't going to work.

The only way it COULD work is to take known mods, and have it search for copies of THOSE files on each client. Then you have a problem with if it doesn't find a close enough variant of the specified mod. Then you have the problem of other mods that utilise particular files - innocently, now causing people to be refused access.

The problem is, regardless if making such a utility is possible, what the HELL is it going to check? This was the problem 8 months ago, this is the problem now, this will be the problem 8 months from now.

And, as I and others have already said. Its not AAA's duty, or problem to pander any further to the paranoia.

Besides that it would take alot of connection and when your talking about a analyzer . it would take 4 months to make and 4 hour's to find a way around it.

hi guys

well thanks anyway - it was just a suggestion to try to get something (anything) to combat any potential hacks online. obviously the points raised are all on the negative side so this would be doomed to failure. :?

While I think such a program would be great... it isn't here now, and it isn't coming soon, so I am just enjoying what I have and the people I am flying with now... being too over;ly concerned about such things is like refusing to wear your watch on the subway because someone might rob you. Keep ypur eyes open and do your business... Life is too short.

People it is only a game. Please realise this. Enjoy all the excellent mods we have here and stop worrying so much about a potential cheater or two. You are ruining it for yourself and taking precious time away from everyone working on worthwhile mods by continually discussing server cheating stopping mods. These could easily be beaten in short order imo anyway by a skilled hacker if built. Things have worked quite well as everyone knows because AAA members has been outstanding in their efforts to improve on the game. Try to get maximum enjoyment out of the game and our new mods till BOB/SOW comes out. Life is to short as BearCat has pointed out.
