I've just run Fraps for the first time since going "sound mod". I love the new eye candy and lovely sound but, I've taken a hit on fps. Is this normal? Anyone else having the same drop in frames?
2008-05-26 23:48:23 - il2fb
Frames: 6910 - Time: 153000ms - Avg: 45.163 - Min: 17 - Max: 75

Frames: 4611 - Time: 153000ms - Avg: 30.137 - Min: 7 - Max: 56
The only thing I've done other than loading the mods is loading the latest ATI drivers for my 3870 vid card.
Da "hope you all can help with this" Worfster
some mods have bigger frame hit
ie slirpys mods, that longer contrails mod
so it just could be that
or maybe something else
anyway
New video drivers can have a huge effect on fps. That said, the first thing I would check is to be sure you are using the same video card settings you had when you did your last benchmark, and that you are flying the same aircraft, on the same map. Some of the aircraft in the "Unified Installer" have reworked, higher resolution cockpits that are a bit more fps intensive.
I would also make sure you are not recording video on FRAPS (indicated by fps counter turning red).
... there are also bunch of beta dll versions to d/l which may help , but you must expect some FPS loss when introducing new graphic effects to the game ...

Yeah Dave I took a hit too... I figured it was a trade off.. I was in the 80s before the mod.. now I am in the 50s.. (Tough nuts right..   )
That's wyy there are some mods I just turn off.. but the beauty of the whole mod thing is you can turn some of them off and try to see which ones hit you the hardest.. (Turn a mod off by putting a - in front of the mod.. for instance you have : NAVLIGHTS_AND_DUST_MOD in your mods folder.. to tuen that off just R click and rename it with a - in front of the name.
I found that the prop mod and some of the graphic mods will do that.
I used my old .dlls and no frame problems.
There are really some mods that throttle down your fps. We really should keep IL2 standarts. For example:
You make a new texture that is 4 times bigger than the old one. If everybody makes this you soon need a new computer.
.... do open console ( shift + tab) when in mission and scroll it at the beginning (page up) ... look for error and warning messages , maybe with fixing some files or disabling mods with those files you can gain some fps back . Just a thought

I have my RCU modified to just use f & nf.. frames.. no frames.. but a giood suggestion.
some mods adjust the visibility/livetime of the smoke/fire effects from 3km to 10 or more
+
some texture sizes were increased from 256/512 to 1024
+
the new graphic dll's increased view distances = lower fps
solution is text file editing or new pc (I did both)
for example: the cloud mod is by default 1024*1024 but I decreased the size to 256 because clouds were always an fps hit - even before the mods - and I want them to use as little resources as possible...still looks good
