Insignia?
#1

So, I've downloaded these missions, from here, there and everywhere........

Some have an additional 'insignia' that appear over the skin I've selected to use for the mission.

Did I leave something turned on, or off? I've selected, deselected, the 'markings on' switch but they just won't go away!

How can I get rid of these, they really are annoying and ruin the look of the 'historical' skin!

dgk196, in the arming screen if you have two sets of markings on your plane, one should disappear when you turn off markings and the one you selected from the dropdown menu should remain.

Thanks, but thats not it!

This is an insignia (squadron type) that over writes anything else in the location.

Its not the 'markings' switch, I know about that.

This 'insignia' stays put no matter which 'skin' you select to use for the mission!

Its not on all missions and the 'insignia' varies, a specific insignia type appears with a specific mission!

Have you tried changing your unit to none?

In situations where I can change to 'none', I have, no change however.

For example: Single Mission, Bf 109F-2 Eastern Blitz. On the 'aircraft customization' screen the 'default' aircraft is displayed with the III/JG27 emblem under the cockpit . The 'aircraft' cannot be set to none and the squadron cannot be changed.

No matter which 'skin' you select this emblem is placed over those that appear on the selected skin. In Single Mission where it is optional to select none for the squadron and the plane type it still happens.

Thanks for hanging in there on this one guys, I'm lost. I've selected and deselected just about every combination of settings I can, no joy!

Sounds like a custom skin is in use. You may have to open the mission in the FMB and make the needed changes there.

Hello,

Its been awhile, sorry........

Since I am not all that familiar with IL2, yet.....

I hate to bug you, but..........

When I 'go into' FMB is there going to be a specific section that I'll be looking for, or is it like really obvious as soon as you go there?

In the FMB after selecting the aircraft you open the "Properties" tab.

Here "None" has been selected as the aircraft's squadron. This will place no regiment emblem on the plane:

Here, 4rd (lol) GvIAP KBF has been chosen so that regiment emblem would be displayed:

To change the regiment emblem just open the mission in the FMB and change it in the "Properties tab. To remove it, choose XXXArmy- .

You can also change the regiment patch in the Aircraft Customization menu as shown here:

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much for your reply sir........

It's not that I don't appreciate the work done by the people who posted these 'items'.......

But, given the effort to make accurate skins for just about every aircraft you could think of..........

Why on earth would anyone think that superimposing 'their' images over everyone else's work would be acceptable?!

Total mystery to me! It really just doesn't 'fit' with the whole concept, does it?!

Maybe, they just didn't realize the impact of what they where doing at the time! I hope everyone else does though, and that such 'mistakes' can be avoided in the future!

Maybe, include the version you want to replicate, and an 'open' version that doesn't impose any 'preset' ac skins?

I hope you don't mind me riding on your thread, but I've just started getting into FMB.

I have been reading Flying Nutcase's tutorials and even watching his YouTube videos.

I made my first single mission but it was hard trying to follow his instructions. I kept pausing the video, expanding my IL-2 game back into FMB to follow along with him.

Although my first single mission was to have just one friendly and one foe I ended up with two of each.

But I am at a loss on some things.

Is there any FMB FAQs around ?

For example, I placed an airplane in a field and wanted to make a waypoint.

From the "waypoint" screen of the airplane I would click on "Set" and a green line would show up.

But I don't know how to anchor it.

It seems the only way to do it is to re-choose the same aircraft ........

I'm lost folks.

I know how to zoom in, use 3D, but my mind goes into over-load.

And yes, I get the red start on the tail of my airplane (or fueslage - I'm tired) when I hit "Play" besides the skin that I chose.

So in a lot of words, ....

Is there a FMB Frequently Asked Questions somewhere.

I've searched but maybe not enough.

As you can tell I am very tired, confused, but want to learn FMB.

Thank you for your consideration.

Thanks Boris, that helped.

I was going into reading, searching, and reading overload.

Found that to make a dogfight map you need to make Home Bases.

Also found out that you can't put a moving object (carrier) in a DF map.

I was trying to modify a DF map that had home bases already and wanted to add a carrier for either land or sea takeoffs and landings.

Also found out, but do not understand, why when you place just one object you have to set a second waypoint.

I'm learning tho.

Uh oh, my mind is starting to spin again :?

Better quit for a while.

But thanks again.

I'm glad that the links helped.

The game requires that all moving surface objects, (vehicles/trains/ships/columns/armor) have at least two waypoints. (You can only set two waypoints for trains). If at least one other waypoint isn't set you get a "Chief Waypoint Error" message. (All moving ground objects are called "Chief" and their paths are called Chief Waypoints, don't ask me why although the "Chief Waypoint" does kind of explain itself). The message tells you which "Chief" it is however it is in code. You can find that "Chief" by opening the .mis file with Notepad or any simple text editor. The only exception is aircraft. You can place only one waypoint for them and, if at altitude, they will circle that waypoint. (Useful for setting an atillery spotter.)

But to answer your question....that's the way it is.

As my Mission Builder Mentor Zeus-cat once told me, "think like Oleg." Apparently this is one of the ways he thinks.
