Viewing pictures in vista
#1

I got my new comptuer friday and it is running great but I have one small problem and that is when i take a screen shot in IL-2 the screen freezes for a second and everything seems oky. Then i go into the main Il-2 folder thinking I should find it like in windows XP but I have looked every where and cannot seem to find the file. I Have not installed any picture software so it uses what ever came with the operatign system to view it. so my question is Where does the File get put after you take the screen shot?

Operating system: Vista

Hello. My screenshots (printscreen) goes to IL-2 main folder, grab0000, grab0001...
And they are TGA format. I have vista also.

Hope this helps.

This may or not be the cause of your missing GRAB000X files/images, but either way....Do not install ANY programs/Applications into the default "C:\Program Files" folder in VISTA. VISTA prevents programs from writing to (Changing) folders/files in the "Program Files" folder. Dumb, but true. You'll find, for example, that when you try to change settings using the IL2 In-game GUI screens, such as assigning Controls to keys, VISTA will not allow the respective config.ini, *.ini files to be changed.

There is a work around using the Admin accounts setup....but most people simply create a new folder for all their games and applications. For example, I have a C:\MyGames folder and a C:\MyApplications folder. When you install anything, browse for those folders rather than allow the Installation Setup to default to the normal "Programs Files" folder.

ok first you can install stuff anywhere and still change settings no problem! You have to go to C:\ the right click on program files -> properties -> security -> edit -> click Users once (your account) -> check the full control box -> apply -> now you don't need to use a round about method. You may thank me later Big Grin

Welll, I guess 'round about method' is in the eye of the beholder.

well saving it somewhere then moving it to the desired place is considered the latest addition to Windows to make people less productive! lol no Vista is good just people need to learn how to use it

I would never advise installing il2 in the C drive anyway...it is too busy with other stuff and the most vulnerable to outside attack..

with all the missions and campaigns and skins and mods we collect..the il2 folder can be over 20 GB in size...so best to keep it on another drive and run it from there

there is a useful mod here which converts the default screen-shots to JPG and gives them a time/date filename so they will not be overwritten
