I have the Saitek pro pedals, outside of making a profile and assigning brakes to both pedals how might I alter the settings and config to allow both to work in game, I know it wont brake the individual wheels but I'd like either one to be useful. I tried entering an extra line in settings.ini
AXE_X JoystickDevice1=brakes
AXE_Y JoystickDevice1=brakes

for some reason this doesn't work, must I enter something in the config as well?

method is correct, now two things:

-do this for every settings.ini in every folder inside "Users" folder, so you're sure to not miss the right one.

-if you're using vista, is is reported to discard changes to files sometimes (can't help you there, i use XP)

-once you've made the change, never open the key assignation menu ingame, or the extra line will be deleted.

Once you have made the changes to the folder change it's properties to "read only". That will prevent any unwanted changes.

Remember you will not be able to make any changes again unless you remove the read only properties
