New Sounds - Allied Flaps, Siren & Bomb Release
#1

Get it here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/84349874/Hu ... 1.rar.html

Please read the readme.txt before you copy or replace any files.

Here are 3 new sounds to enhance your enjoyment of SG2_Wasy's excellent sound mod.

1. p_dev_00.wav - Allied flaps

The sound I have always disliked in the IL2 series is the flaps opening and closing sound for allied planes. The stock sound appears to sound like a sharp blast of compressed air. I have altered this sound to make it sound like the hiss of a well maintained pnuematic valve. I don't know if that's accurate, but it sounds much better to me.

This new sound is quieter than the stock sound so you should locate the file aircraft.msc.prs in your files/presets/sounds folder and change the setting for p_flaps to the following:

[p_flaps]
file p_dev_00.wav
infinite 1
controls env

[p_flaps.env]
gain0 0.25
gain1 1.25

You might want to set the gain1 value to 1.5 if you want the sound to be even louder.

2. ground_siren.wav - Air Raid Siren

This is a real sample of an air raid siren. The stock siren sound is over-processed IMO. This siren adds a cinematic feel to air raids and scramble situations.

3. dev_00.wav - Bomb release

The stock bomb release sound is simply the sound of bombs detaching from the a/c. The modded version had the sounds of bombs falling, but IMO the sound was too loud and a little cartoonish. This sound gives you the sound of the bomb release mechanism and then a different sound for bombs falling; quieter and less intrusive... as if falling in the distance.

Hope you like them.

Cheers!

Huxley.

I'd love to give this one a try....but it's that damn rapidshare site again, which has yet to work for me, after trying on 5 different PC's.
If anyone has this, would they mind PM'ing me, to arrange mailing to me...??
Thanks

Some feedback would be nice... too loud, too quiet, good or bad Smile

I found that the the siren sounds best if you locate the objects.siren.prs preset file and set the volume to 135. That file isn't in the 9.0 sound mod, but can be extracted from the files.SFS file using the SFS extractor utility and then placed in the file/presets/sounds directory and added to the filelist (I haven't upgraded to the new wrapper yet). I'll include this file in the next version.

I'm currently working on tweaking the sound of bombs falling. This is currently using a monotone sample and some preset files to create the changing tone of bombs as they fall. However, it sounds very unrealistic at the moment because the tone can reach near-ultrasonic pitches and it sounds too synthesized. (If you play the Air Raid mission from my Iraq 1941 campaign on Mission4Today you'll see what I mean.)

I've been experimenting with limiting the range of tones that can be produced and the samples being used, with some success.

I'll post that too when it's ready.

I've tried it out and I think the flap sounds are too quiet. I adjusted it in the prs file, but I still think it could be turned up a bit - mind you, I was flying a B17, maybe I should try it with a fighter before I pass comment. Will do that when I'm back at home. The bomb doors sound is fine, I'm not too sure about the bomb sounds yet. I prefer them to the previous sound, but think it could still be made a bit better. The siren is great.

Hi Huxley_S,

I downloaded your sounds. They are great.

Only one remark. The sound of the siren warns about fire.
The sound for air-raid alarm sounds a little bit different; at
least in those days back in Germany.

You can hear a sample on the following site, file is "Luft - Alarm.mp3"
(not LS-Sirene 1942.mp3). http://www.step5.de/Luftschutzsirene-de/

You will find some explanation on this site within the box (unfortunately
in german). http://www.luftschutzsirene.de/9920.html

I tried to convert the "mp3" format to "wav" which is needed in the game,
but failed as I am not an expert.

Maybe you are able to convert it and create a new siren sound. In case
of you will incur this effort, it would be fantastic if you could publish
the file within this thread. Thank you.
