Choosing Player Aircraft Question
#1

Hello, folks:

I'm pretty new at mission/campaign design, but I've been learning mostly through trial and error. However, I've bumped into a problem I just can't seem to figure out on my own:

In the first mission in the campaign, I have a flight of Me-262s, the first of which is tagged as the player aircraft. On another airfield are 2 flights of He-111s. When the campaign starts, the player is put in one of the He-111s, not the Me-262. However, in the aircraft arming screen, both the Me-262 and the He-111 are listed, but the He-111 is shown in red. There doesn't seem to be a way to change this. Is this a problem with how I have squadrons/flights assigned?

Also, in creating a dynamic campaign, is there a way to have the campaign keep track of AI pilots and log your kills the same way the vanilla dynamic campaigns do?

Thanks in advance.

Make sure that your player's aircarft is in a unique squadron; in other words, no other flight can share the same squadron name as the one that has the aircraft set to Player. That is the only way to ensure that you will have him fly in the correct plane.

As for the dynamic campaign question, I am not familiar with DGEN, but I use Paul Lowengrin's Dynamic Campaign Generator (DCG) instead. If I understand your question, it will do the logging you want. It is more mod-friendly as well. If you do a search in these forums for DCG, you will find a lot of information. Also see Lowengrin's web site:

Thanks, folks, for your responses. They helped me solve the player aircraft problem. Granted, I had to go through lots of missions and change lots 'o squadrons, but at least I know now what to do in the future.

Having looked through the file folders, it is the dgen files I'm talking about. I think knowing the names and hometowns of your fellow squadron mates adds a lot of immersion. In one of the vanilla campaigns, there was a guy in my squadron from Warren, PA ... which is where I graduated high school. I was pretty amazed that Warren would even be included (pop. 11,000) and I thought, "Hey, this could've been a friend of mine in school before the war" so I kept an eye on him in the air.

It's just kind of a nifty immersion tool.

No one here knows how to incorporate DGEN files into a custom built campaign?

Also, I tried using the DCG but it's just a mystery to me. I can't seem to do anything with it. I always get a pop-up box saying no campaign has been selected even though I've followed the directions to the best of my ability.

According to the directions, once you generate the first mission, you can go back into DCG and edit the settings, but it doesn't seem to work. Either I get a 'no campaign selected' pop-up, or the changes don't seem to have taken effect in the game itself. I really don't get this program at all, and the instructions seem to be leaving something out that I'm just not getting.
