Arlington Airshow, Take TWO (PICS)
#1

I don't want to hijack Doodle's thread, so started my own. Hope that's OK.

As viewed from the east side of the airport, over near Out of the Blue Aviation, here are some pics of the show on Friday:

Matt Groth and his green and white Decathlon 8KCAB put on an outstanding performance on Friday. I've had the privilege of flying with Matt on many occasions, most recently to shoot some video of his airshow routine, and it's always a thrill. He's a true artist with this aircraft:

Nice circle!!

Going on turn number 7 of his opening spin. It's amazing how stable the aircraft is at this point

More spins!

John Pierson and his Zlin-50

John's a really cool guy, he's the instructor who gave me my tailwheel endorsment!

Bud And Ross Granley put on great performances, as always!

Very nice F2F, that smoke circle is the best one I've ever seen, the guy's got talent! I saw the Mustang fly by my house that day and for some reason he was in a bit of a hurry. Other than WWII footage that's the fastest I've seen one moving for sure, was awesome. Thanks for the pictures, always great to see them Wink

I also shoot photo for fun and professionally. Air shows and the like for fun. Weddings and the like for cash. Please share what equipment you're using? I personally use Olympus E-1 and E-3 cameras. I use the 50-200 mm lens F2.5-3.1 to shoot flying aircraft and the 14-54 mm F2.8-3.5 lens for vehicles on the ground. Here are some shots from WWII Weekend in Reading, Pennsylvania back in June.

All were cropped and color corrected in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you like the shots!

Here are some numbers for everyone to think about... I took 936 pictures on Friday. This morning I went through and deleted all of the obviously unacceptable pictures (out of focus, blurry, poor composition, etc.) and deleted 450 right off the bat. Then I went through again and chose the ones I wanted people to actually see, and that is where these pictures come in. My gallery includes 90 photos from Saturday. In just a few hours I widdled them down from 936 to only 90 pictures. That's about as good as it gets! haha I'm REALLY excited when I am able to keep 20% of my pictures!! haha

Doodle - Mine don't blow yours away, they're completely different types of shots. Smile You take very good pictures, and all that matters is that YOU'RE satisfied with them. It took me a long time to realize that.

Ruger - It was doing some high speed passes for the show. Unfortunately I wasn't in the right spot to get those on video, but figured it was better to get closer for the landing. I could feel the wake from that guy landing!

Bolter - Nice shots, I would LOVE to go see a show like that! I shoot airshows with a Canon RebelXT body and Sigma 50-500mm for 90% of my shooting and a fun little Sigma 10-20mm for cockpit and exterior shots.

I showed my aerobatic instructor (in the green and white plane) the pictures I took of his performance and he was very pleased. He wants more video and pictures for promotions, and wants me to come along with him again when he practices his airshow routine. Yes! So sometime in the near future I'll get some more G's in my blood again. It's hard as heck to shoot video/pics during an aerobatic routine, but MAN is it fun!!
