Hi all,
Forgive my ignorance, and if this has been asked before, i'm sorry. But can anyone give an explanation of what the version switcher does. I've managed to get the unified installer to load into my game. I copied and pasted the version switcher to my desktop. From what i can tell you don't need the cd in the drive as i just click on one of the options and press switch and run and it goes straight into the game. But what difference does it make if i choose 4.08, or 4.09b1. Could anyone enlighten me.
Plus, i got the RAF ranks in cryllic, and have run the career fix, but nothing happened. Can anyone tell me if it has to go into a certain place as i just put it in my main folder.
Sorry, to ask such simple questions, i've tried to get the UI since it came out, thanks to a friend i now have it and i just want to use it properly.

The various game versions accessible through the switcher are required for online compatibility. If going online check which version is required first. Otherwise just leave it switched to 4.09b1 mod, or the 6DOF version if you are lucky enough to have that.

The English Career Language Fix replaces files in root/DGen. If you have just copied the files into the root folder then it will have no effect. Backup your DGen folder first. Check and see if the files in your DGen folder also appear in the root folder. If so remove the ones from the root folder to a temp folder, check the game still works. If so you can delete the temp folder.

correct me please if i got this wrong
a while back i installed the ui 1.1 and tried to start the game with the il46 start screen .it crashed to desktop caused major problems for me ,have not played game since
i should have copied the game switcher to the desktop and clicked on it to run the program instead is that correct,

I have only installed UI 1.1 recently but I have not had any problems with it.

Il2VersionSwitcher.exe is installed in the game root folder, not on desktop.
But I use a shortcut icon on the desktop to work it.
I normally use the game icon to start IL-2 but it also works if I use the Switch and Run option in the Version Switcher.

It wont work if the exe fie is on desktop because it will not be able to access the required folders.
If yours was on the desktop then it may have started the process of removing files but not been able to paste in the new ones because it couldn't find them.

The only files swapped in and out by the version switcher are:

files.sfs
il2fb.exe
wrapper.dll

If you look in the _GameSwitchers folder you can see which files are required to be installed for each version.
If you want to recover the game I suggest trying to get back to v4.08 unmodded to begin with.

Copy the files from root/ _GameSwitchers/4.08 Mods OFF (original) into your root folder and remove the wrapper.dll file if present. Click on il2fb.exe to start the game.

If you get v4.08 Mods OFF working then it will probably be easiest to reinstall UI 1.1 from that point. Before re-installing, delete root/files (if it exists) and delete MODS folder (or remove to a backup). Don't delete the _GameSwitchers folder.
