I just bought IL2 1946 and the add-on ostfront. I installed the game but I do not know how to install ostfront. In which folder should i install ostfront? Directly in the Il2 1946 folder?
also i am very confused regarding the ostfront patches. can anybody explain me step by step what to do?

it should come with an exe...
with an installer.
just install the base add-on with the installer and then install the patches (which i also know as self-installing exes...) number by number.
Not very confusing as I know only one or two patches.
if you have the CD it should at least be so. if you have the add-on-files from "elsewhere"... i don't know then.

I got ostfront from X1 as a CD.
I guess i am retarded, but when i try to install ostfront, the installer offers to install the files in the forgotten battle folder, but this does not exist since I have IL2 1946 rather than forgotten battles.
so my question is actually: where should i install ostfront. somewhere in the IL2 1946 folder or in a separate folder? Also i sort of remember reading somewhere that i should only install specific files from the CD and not everything , but i do not remember where i saw that thread nor which files it was about.
If you can help with that it would be greatky appreciated.

You need to install Ostfront directly in your IL 2 1946 folder.
The path proposed by the installer is just a 'default' setting.
Beside the destination folder proposed by the .exe is a 'Browse' button, use this button to navigate to your IL 2 1946 folder.
