cannot get autumn colours for canon's map to work
#1

Dear All,
I am not sure about the instructions to put these into the game as it has not worked. Could you please explain in more detail how to put the folders into the mods folder......is it the mods folder or the mapmods folder that this folder is put into?

Hi sentinel

Could you please describe what you have done so far and what results you are getting (maps not showing, not loading, giving you errors... ) ? Do the other Channel maps work ? Experience shows that 9/10 times people experiencing errors got everything perfectly right xcept for just one misplaced file

Note that the Autumn version does not change Canon's maps but adds two new maps. You won't see any difference on the Summer and Winter Channels. Add the corresponding lines for the Autumn map (check the readme) at the end of your all.ini file (under 'MODS/mapmods/maps') and try to open the map in the FMB.
For the map to work in QMB+ (the mod, I have no idea how the new 4.09 QMB works or if it'll be compatible at all) download the QMB missions pack that's available to download in the same post as the Autumn map, then follow the readme instructions (those should be quite simple) and don't forget to add the appropriate lines (included in the reamde) at the end of your conf.ini file (in root directory)

I don't exactly remember how the files are packed in the .zip, but the structure and paths of the files in the zip correspond to where evrything needs to be placed in the Il-2 folder. Extract the zip, if the first folder you get is 'MODS', with all files inside, then copy that 'MODS' folder and drop it in your root directory. If the folder is 'MapMods', then copy it and drop it in you 'MODS' directory. If asked to overwrite, that means you already have some of the required files (Rus_Andrey's Autumn trees most likely...)

I hope this is clear, I can't help you more right now as I am away from my Il-2 computer, but that should put you in the right direction. Any details you may provide could be very helpful.

Cheers

OK, what I did was open up the folder labelled VB_Canon's_Channel_autumn and sent the mapmods folder inside to be unzipped in the IL-2 root directory.
I added the text as instructed.
When I called up the map in the FMB the error message was: Map [2D] not found inmaps/CAN_English Channel/ A1940 load.ini

Ok, so you need to unzip you mapmods folder inside your Mods folder, and that should work. If the maps appear in game (in the scroll down list) then the manual editing part of the install should be OK.

Be careful your unzipping software deosn't extract content under a different folder (mine creates a new folder named after the .zip file, which has caused me to experience some issues in the past)

Dear Vonbarb,
There is a folder in my mods folder called Mapmods already............what bothers me is that if I do that will it not overwrite what is in that folder or will it just add to it?
The error message I get is:
section Map[2D] not found in maps/CAN_English Channel/A1940 load.ini

I have downloaded and ran the install again and now I get:

World Land () Load Map()error.Java Laang.RuntimeExceptionLandscape' CAN_English Channel/1940Load.ini 'loading error

I found that the zip just adds to the text and not overwrites it.

Nope, placing the mapmods folder from the zip in the MODS folder will not overwrite anything. All files included in the zip are new, except for Rus_Andrey's autumn trees which I have included in the zip for convenience but not edited. You may be prompted to overwrite them if they are already installed in your mapmods folder, and it is perfectly safe to do so since they are exactly the same.

The zip won't change anything in the text files (all.ini for FMB and conf.ini for FMB). This you have to do yourself.

This is probably going to sound really stupid to you but I need to ask these questions to understand what may me amiss here :
-Do you have Canon's original maps (Summer and Winter) installed and working ? They are required for the Autumn map to work.
-Have you checked the lines you added for typos ? One letter off could cause the whole thing to bug.

Sounds to me like you are missing some files, i.e they are not where they should be or where the .ini files are looking for them. I'll be back at my Il-2 computer later tonight and will be able to check the .zip and my install for places where you may have made a small mistake (probably because of my faulty instructions :p )

Dear VonBarb,
Yes I have Canon's original beta map and also the full release version and they all work. The lines, I believe that I copied and pasted from your add to all.ini text.
I do expect that there are some files that have gone to the wrong place.

Hi Sentinel,
I've done up a bit of a blurb on how I installed VB's autumn stuff for you to compare with;

Here we go.. first up I extracted everything to C:/Temp
[Image: vb1.jpg]

Folder structure looks like this;
[Image: vb2.jpg]

I right clicked on the _Tex folder and selected cut;
[Image: vb3.jpg]

I then navigated to my game/mods/mapmods/maps folder and selected paste;
[Image: vb4.jpg]

I then returned to my C:/Temp folder and right clicked on Can_EnglishChannel and selected cut;
[Image: vb5.jpg]

Back to my game/mods/mapmods/maps and select paste;
[Image: vb4.jpg]

I then edited the all.ini to include the text from the readme, fired up the game and there she was in the FMB.

Hope this helps

Cheers
