Confused!! What files do i need
#1

Hi I am new to this site having just found it, and looking around there is some fantastic mods out there. and i am keen to use them.I have looked through a number of forums and i am confused as to what the process is to be able to use them. I have downloaded:

4.09m patch and skins, installed over 4.08m. so far everthing OK,
I have also downloaded:
AC Installer v3.8, ENG sound mod version 0.93, SFX 0.6, and wrapper exe. all have Not been installed. i have no other mods or programmes installed on out of the box IL2 1946.

what is the correct order to install these files and allow me to ultilise the mods and avoid game crashes and other quirks i have read about, also looking at some of the aircraft files there is talk about buttons and changing txt files????

Help :???:

i apoligise if there is a thread dealing with this problem, i did look, but couldnt find the answers.

If you have installed the patches for version 4.08 and the patch for version 4.09 and nothing else, then you are in the perfect position to make things very easy for yourself.

Download the Unified Installer, version 1.2. It is quite large, but it incorporates virtually all mods and files that you will need. Moreover by installing the UI 1.2, it all happens with a self-installing process. All the mods install themselves automatically. No problems worrying where to put this or that - the installer does it for you.

You may need to add a few lines of text for your new maps to work, but that is explained and easily done.

Also a tip: before you install UI 1.2, make a copy of your game as it is. Put it in a safe place so that if ever necessary, you can retrieve it to do a re-install of the game. You never know. It's a precaution, but one which may prove useful to you at some point.

And keep the Unified Installer files in a safe place too.

I got my game to patch all the way up using 4.09m and UI 1.2 using the following method:

1. Clean install of IL-2 patched to 4.08m

2. Install UI 1.1 (required before UI 1.2 per instructions)

3. Install UI 1.2 with patch

4. Install 4.09m patch.

5. Install the 4.09m skin pack.

6. Install SASMODACTv2.1_for_Premodded and make the changes to the files he listed in his "readme". This is really easy if you have never done it because he lists all the files necessay and their addons.

7. Added the SAS_Buttons_v2.3 per the instructions (UI 1.2 compliant) and renamed the original UI 1.2 buttons file to prevent crashes.

8. Finally used the SAS presets sound file as a base (to ensure all the new planes have engine sounds) and then installed the UI 1.2 presets sounds file on top of the SAS presets sounds file.

Absolutely nothing difficult, just time consuming if you follow all the instructions that are in the SAS mod folder's readme files. And a small side point, I did not get into IL-2 until two weeks ago (a real IL-2 noob), so if I can do it, you can too.

If you really want to get slick and be able to switch between stock 4.09m , 40.9m + UI 1.2 or 4.09m + UI 1.2 + 6D TIR, you just have to add the correct files to the UI 1.2 mod switcher folders.

The SASMODACTv2.1 for premodded: http://specialaircraftservice.com/SASACT/

The SAS_Buttons_v2.3: http://specialaircraftservice.com/SASACT/

Make sure to pict the Buttons v2.3 and not the old Buttons v2.1. The Buttons_v2.3 has all the new UI 1.2 plane's FM's included. The Buttons_v2.1 is for the UI 1.1 mod.

I'm at work so I'm relying on memory, but it should be in the Files folder subgroup that the UI 1.1 mod created toward the top of the game file structure. The alternate method is do a M$ Search for "buttons" and M$ should find it.

Edit: the UI 1.2 buttons is in files/gui/game
