[WIP] New Map - Straight of Hormuz Ready for Download
#1

Here is a new map of an out of the way region. It is of the Straight of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf. Area covered is Iran/Persia (as it was called in WWII) and the northern part of the Arab Emirates.

There is no specific conflict as such depicted, though British and Soviet both occupied parts of Persian during WWII. There was no (or little) opposition to the occupation so in the main this would be map for creating fictitious or alternate history missions, with for instance a more vigorous defense by Persian forces, or perhaps a clash between British and Soviet forces in the more northern map area or perhaps even a German/Italian incursion into the region. Your imagination is the limit.

The map covers a vast and mainly empty region filled with desolate mountains and plateaus. Even so, to give the impression of habitation, even if only on a modest scale, the map has been populated with a large number of objects. Nowhere will there be a large concentration of objects, except in the harbor city of Bandar e Abbas and to a far lesser degree in the other harbor towns. Loading time, may take longer than with other maps and should be somewhat similar to that of the Slovakia map.

You will need to install object packs. All links for these, as well as install instructions are included in the readme/install.txt.

There are also a few Persian skins, all historical this time, for anyone wishing to fly this side in a mission.

Thanks for this...my first posting in the army was to Sharjah for nine months in 1969...and we did a month overland trip to Muscat....driving in the desert is hell.

That's an interesting map, but I think it would be useful especially standing in for areas we don't have.

BTW, Persia was already called Iran by WW2 .remember the Tehran conference?

Iran was used by the allies to transfer lend lease AC to the Soviets, so some kinda alternate history scenario could be made here.

Also, the Brits and the Germans had a small air war in Iraq early in the war. Nice idea.

Thank you Agracier!
A very good map! Big Grin
And even if there weren't major air battles in this area, there was a strong presence of air patrols
against U-Boats because the greatest part of lend-lease aid to Russia passed through Iran.
Submarine operations in the Persian Gulf began early: in March 1940 an Italian submarine, the "Galvani"
was sighted and then sinked by allied ships, but axis submarine activity continued
until August 1944 (when the U-859 sinked a merchant ship)
So we can use your good map for anti-sub missions of recon and attack!

EDIT
I forgot: in October '40 a formation of Italian "SM-82" of "41

love all your maps, and this one works great for me.
However, the biplane skin doesnt work
I note it is 3 Mb while the other skins you include are 1Mb each.
Is that the problem?

Hmmm ... must have added a skin that wasn't reduced to 256 colors ... my mistake.

Here's a link to a 1mb skin, in 256 colors.
