canopy glass

i know there are some real pros when it comes to mods, especially the visual effects.

I was recently messing around with some oil spatter, and i ran into some limitations with the animation already known about.
I noticed that the canopy glass actually doesn't have its own eff file, but instead runs off the mesh from a damage lod i'm guessing.
The idea of creating an eff for canopy glass could open up the possibility to not only expand on the oil splatter animations but you could also add more detail to other animations.

I even had a thought for making animations of water condensation above certain altitudes.
Might look a bit like this,

I'm not sure how much work is involved for modding this kind of effect into the game, but just having an eff that could allow the texures to be fitted over the canapies, it seems like it could be possible, no?

Maybe its too much work for one or two people. I thought about mods where separate mesh files and texures are involved for each plane.
It seems the work load gets pretty high considering the amount of variants there are for some planes, though most Spitfires for example, use the same cockpit.
Anyway, I would think a group of 5 or 10 people could tackle 2 or 3 planes each and then you'd have at least the more popular planes covered.
I'm not sure how complex it is to even add eff files, but retooling the mesh files seems like a big headache to me.

any other thoughts?

Pilot should be dead in that case. Looks like he exploded.

I understand the need for "realism" and all ... but I can leave that one ion the cutting room floor.. IMO it is overkill..

I'm not into the gor stuff because it is over done. Id wrather hear the pilot laboring to breath or something to that effect than see what looks like kool aid sprayed everywhere.

No offense if thats your thing, but i'm thinking an eff file could be put to good use if the canopies had one.

Then you could add animated gor, oil splatter, water droplets or what ever else you want animated. Like even debri hitting the window. It could also cover different parts of the window and not just the wind screen.

Its probably too much for the mod community to take on, but I'm amazed at how some mods are actually quite simple, so i thought at least I'd open the discussion.

The color of the effects have diferents tones because in this mod the effects reacts with the ilumination in the glass. In some conditions looks more dark in other look to bright. Im still working in the alpha channel for maked more realist.

This mod its aimed for medium an heavy bombers you will can see a bloody mess if your copilot or nose gunner its killed.

Lefty, as far as I can remember we already have reflection on the canopy in several planes, I don't know if it it's part of the stock game or if it came with cockpit repaints.

But the condense effect makes me think of this: what to think of raindrop effect on the canopy? Would be nice to have I think when taxiing to the runway in bad weather or when flying with rain and thunder. Big Grin

The blood splatters remind me of the scene in The Memphis Belle where the pilots were covered in tomato soup when their thermos was hit. Stupid movie, funny scene. I'm not sure that level of gore is really needed in game though.
