I agree, I think we have a lot of not so much "useless planes" but a lot of planes that we are still not even quite sure even existed! For example, do we even know if the 109-K-14 even existed? It didn't it was just a set of plans on yellowing paper  SO my question is why don't we have more improved versions of existing aircraft. For example, the new p-51s! Their great! Why not more of that?
Just my two cents,

While I agree that there are a sufficient amount of Bf-109's, Spitfires, Fw-190's, P-51's, B-25's, P-38's etc. etc. in the game I do disagree that they should stop making subvariants. It takes orders of magnitude less time to make small modifications to existing models when compared to completely new models.
Another bonus is, that once every conceivable 109 is in the game, they'll either have to change focus to another plane to make subvariants of, stop modding or start making completely new aircraft... So in given time, all these arguments will only serve to clutter up the harddrive of the server
I remember back when we didn't have all the 109's we have now, heck, I played the IL-2 demo back in the day with only 5 or 6 planes.... And I played the demo only recently and the Bf-109G-2 is so utterly porked in the demo that it's scary...
So I appreciate every subvariant and every new model of WW1, interwar, WW2, Korea and Vietnam aircraft that get added in. You know, the things that are actually technologically possible to do and still use guns as their primary method of attack
Already feels like I'm flying Bf-109 Sturmovik.....or IL2 Spitfire.
In the end it's not my call clearly. Who ever makes the models gets to pick what they want to make, case closed. In kind varients do make a lot of sense in that most of the work is there, and what better way for a new model builder to cut their teeth on then an aircraft laid out there before them....
However it is frustrating.....To be sure all we've gained is awesome, yet it is a little disappointing when an aircraft that never fought or flew is built, or where it was a stepping stone varient (just a couple made or a prototype) is done, when we're missing so many other aircraft that were used in great numbers (and if an AF had only 100 aircraft 20 is a big number).
Personally, I don't care about the aircraft that fought in 1 battle then was replaced, or never saw action.....SPeaking as to what I know it's a shame that aircraft that we're in service the entire length of the war or much of it making up the bulk of an air force are not in the sim.....Ki-21-IIb's, Ki-48's, Ki-49's, Ki-51's, and on a varient note the Ki-61-Id of which there were more built and used in combat then any other.....Really the bulk of the Japanese Army Flying Corps, yet everyone want's the Ki-44, or Ki-45....Both well used aircraft in their own right yet no where near like the above. Heck, in actuallity we have only 1/one/uno/eins/2-1/1x1/a single Japanese army bomber and it pretty much was used for transport mainly by 1942, and only 2 Navy bombers the GM4 the oldest, and the same with the D3A1....As a whole host of others simply ignorred (as the AI bombers still don't fly right being the B5N/B6N)........Basically, after Pearl Harbor you're done with Japanese bombing as per the sim.
Ah well.......Yeah sure, we need more Bf-109's.

My reply from SAS:
I considered it (109H) as the final production version used the same cowling as found on the G-10 Erla (made by myself). Whilst the inner wing section wouldn't be difficult for a modeller to create, the current 109 map does not have room to texture this section. Hence we would end up with a scenario we have seen with the Typhoon in which it uses two seperate texture maps across it.
The Avia and Hispanos need a new cowling (mapping is easy) and FM, which is much easier to do. I am not offereing to do any of these models, I've done plenty when it comes to 109s. And when the Ultimate 109 Pack v2 comes out with all of JapanCat's 3D fixes (will be in next HSFX), I am sure you 109 fans will be more than content.
Also the Bf-109T was started a while ago but due to a few issues, it has been put on the backburner indefinately.
Don't we already have around 30 109s...?
I believe some 109s aren't accurate enough in game.
For example, by Japo's book, the nose gun couldn't exchange between MK 108(/U4 type) and MG 151.
Besides, base on either production numbers or designer, the G-10 Erla should be standard G-10 actually.
Therefore, I think we need to improve them first, then more 109s are welcome.
By the way, the cockpit for G.55 seems wrong, too.
My two cents:
I personally love the 109, and don't mind having lots of versions. However, the one-off and very limited production stuff is a little much, I guess. Yes, there are many more planes that should be added to this sim, but I think there are two main reasons why so many 109 mods have been added.
1. There were LOTS of variants made in real life. There were many more variants actually put into production than, say, the Spitfire had.
2. It's relatively easy to add more Bf-109s because the 3D models are already there! Pretty much any 109 can be made by starting with one of Maddox's models. It's obviously a lot easier to edit an existing model than to make a whole new one from scratch.
I'd love to have more French fighters and British bombers, but I can't make them, and I'm certainly not going to complain that others aren't making them for me. Until I can model and learn Java, I'll take what I can get!
