I have several Korea Maps now available.
3BG_KTO
3BG_KTO_Winter
CY6_North_Korea
CY6_North_Korea_W
I also have a campaign which uses some other map of southern Japan and Korea. This map shows up in the recently released F9F Panther campaign.
Which Korea Map is preferred and why?
Well I can only say both maps are exellent, if your looking for a realistic flight to Mig Alley then the CY6 1:1 map, but be prepared to conserve fuel if you want to make it back south across the 38th. If you want shorter flight times then Dixiecapt's 3BG_Kto both maps are exellent.
We at the 51st fly both maps depending on the situation. Both Dixie with his original and CY6 have done outstanding work bringing the KTO into the game with there respective maps. ~S
Jimdandy,
First of all, I agree with you that both Dixiecap and Checkyour6 created great maps. Both maps are among my favorites.
However, I do have a question for you. On CY6's map, have you been able to fly a F-86 from Kimpo to Mig Alley and back without running out of fuel? If so, please tell me your secret.
While I like to fly missions from takeoff to landing, I have built missions for CY6's map that begin with air starts. I've also began and ended some missions at the island airbases.
Wish I could squeeze more fuel in the external tanks.
Cheers,
Riptide
Yes unfortunately the distances are pretty big, though I have managed to get to Mig Alley and back, even with combat. The trick is to go relatively slow - around 300-400kph, on the return leg, so you'll still have some fuel left on return.
During the war, fuel conservation was such a problem that pilots would sometimes climb and glide on their way back to conserve fuel. Wish there was something else to be done, but there it is.
Checkyersix,
Thanks again for your North Korea Map. You are among the map making masters! I'll give the slow/glide technique a try. If that doesn't work, I'll just go back to using the island base rather than Kimpo.
Cheers,
Riptide
Which one of these doesn't need the objects in the mod packs to work?
Dixie's 3bG_KTO has a small portion of japan, it was available here on this site in the map download section.
As far as being able to fly to Mig Alley and back, on CY6's 1:1 we fly out of Suwon AB where the real 51stflew from,. We mostly fly the F-86J without missles and with the larger Tanks, climb out to 30.000ft hold stick inputs to the bare minumium and set your throttle between 55 and 60% cruise, you'll maintain plenty of speed at the lower throttle settings. If you plan on heading up the Yalu river north of Andong you will only have 5 or 10 min at most of combat time before you reach bingo fuel anything less than 100gals you probably won't make it back as far as KimpoAB. Many flights I have had to throttle to 0% from about Pyongyang at 300000FT just to coast as far south as I could to get back across the line, and diverting to Kimpo to land. Dixe's map has a little shorter flight times but the F-86 is a hog when it comes to fuel comsumption if you get into a good fight with some Migs up north of Andong, you'll still need to use the 100gal bingo fuel mark, to get back.
