Good day, guys


First, I must say that I have had amazing fun flying in HyperLobby.

(You'll see me as FA_Fireskull: FA is for Fallen Angels Squadron. Please don't gang up on me! ... the way many do: "Look! Kill Fireskull!" :lol: )



For those who do not know, HyperLobby is a free way to join in online combat with IL-2.



Anyway, how do you like HyperLobby and what do you think is the future for it?

I loved it until the cheating started! Invisible planes.....yup they exist. Then there the ones that have incredible speed, they warp so fast into the next dimension that they are right up your tail pipe in milliseconds.

I do enjoy flying online, I would like to do more but the cheaters make it frustrating. Its been quite sometime since I have flown there.

Having an invisible and invinsible plane is not cheating. They can't kill you either... It's because of wrong markings from a mod that gives you for example spanish civil war markings. Using the default ones fixes the problem in 85% of the situations.

Are there any servers where you think there is no cheating? I suppose those would be the squadron servers in HyperLobby.

What should be done about the cheating, both from the server hosts and what can the pilots can do? ;dd

The in air collisions are increased, though - don't you think? There is the spotter advantage for relaying info to squadmates in STEALTH, too, right?

It is too bad that there isn't better identification of invisible aircraft in IL-2! :x "Invisible Aircraft Have Been Detected!"

Personally I rarely attend online IL-2 sessions for specific reasons.

As for the cheating, I don't see that this is a big issue for real.
First of all, you'll never avoid it for sure.
Second, crt=2 does a pretty good job in preventing players from cheating. Yes, it's still not 100% safe, but in order to get into a crt=2 server with a modded game, you have to have pretty advanced knowledge of modding stuff and/or know some people who do so. That's all but public knowledge. On the other hand, if you want to play on servers which allow modded games (i.e. don't do crt check at all), just in order to apply your favourite skin or mod or whatever else, you don't have to be surprised that others throw their mods in as well, for whatever they are.
Third, even those servers which do allow modded games in public HL gameplay, tend to have active administrations which are watching gameplay on their servers, as well as boards where other users can prove obvious cheating and get those players banned.
Much more than real cheating on those servers, I see accusations of cheating which are lacking any basics. That's much more annoying to me. Sometimes when you take down an enemy (or even worse: He's crashing himself while you're in a fight), you'll find yourself back in a cheating discussion for hours (continued on forums for days or weeks), worth nothing at all. I'd tend to say that 99% of all cheating discussions are pure rubbish, simply based on players unable to deal with not being the "winner" all the time.

One thing that's really disappointing to me is the gameplay itself on public servers.
There's nothing like a coordinated attack/defense at all, most of the players simply try to get their kill (even or preferably in a suicide manner). Look at the stats of public servers, most players have a survival rate way below 50%, and if you ever happen to have one of 80% or more, you'll be back in the cheating discussion (see above), just for you yourself trying to fly like you'd do when it was your own body sitting inside that plane.

Just an example (happens like this every now and then): Last week I did one of my pretty rare online hours again, when I saw some guy in a Focke-Wulf diving out of the clouds to (in my opinion) catch up some of my fellows. I took my Spit and chased that FW, when another fellow of mine wrote in the chat "He's mine!". Well, I had to look around a bit (pretty helpful, those kind of messages, when there are no coordinates, no callsigns etc. so you just don't know who is talking to whom about what), then I saw a Pony diving from some 1000ft above me behind the FW. I paired 1 and 1, and answered back "well then, I'll keep your 6 clean!". Short answer "thx". So far, so good.
My fellow entered a turn fight with the FW (I should have been warned here: Two Boom&Zoom fighters enter a Turn&Burn fight with each other, obviously professionals around) which took some time (wonder of wonders), while I stayed in standby 1000ft above the digfight arena. Some seconds later from the corner of my eyes I discovered three 109s approaching our area. Since I promised to my fellow to keep his 6 clean, and I noticed that he didn't notice the 109s, I gave a warning "109 in high " and break to engage them.
It was me agains three, so I had to play for time. This went well about a minute, when I noticed in the chatlog that my fellow in the Pony eventually managed to take down the 190. Drove him a short note "grats, pls help" just to see him running home without further notice.
Well then, I had to deal with it now that I was in. Tried to keep the 109s off for about another minute, when I suddenly saw two other Spits passing the area app. 2000-3000ft above. They were obviously chasing something (later on I noticed that this were two Heinkels being on their way back from a bombrun), and I asked them to assist with giving my coords.
No reaction.
They continued chasing their Heinkels.
Another minute later one of the 109s got me, I hat to bail out, just to see on the chatlog that one of the other Spit-"Fellows", which had decided to ignore me, had taken down one of the Heinkels, when in turn the other one startet to shout him for kill stealing, and another 30 seconds later (when I was still with my chute) he took his own fellow down for revenge of the pretended killstealing, leaving the other Heinkel untouched.

This story's just an example, but similar things happen to me every second online flight (meaning once a month :mrgreen: ), that's why I don't like online gameplay too much.

You know that's the other thing, maturity. I was in the military many moons ago, and one thing they will teach is cooperation (within your unit anyways) to accomplish a mission. I find that some of the online clientele are only in the game for themselves. Even in some of the Co-op games there is NO discipline. Which includes the cheating, killstealing, and other rude behavior. I am not bashing all of them but it only takes one or two clowns to ruin a would have been good mission.

For a nation to hand one of its young men a fighter aircraft they needed to demonstrate that they could follow orders to some extent. That's why I won't fly online as much, some just do not have the maturity to act accordingly. I would love to fly with mature, disciplined individuals who actually want to simulate the combat experience during WWII. Shot down or not isn't that part of the game? I don't really like getting one on my tail in fact its part of the fun to avoid this, its just that when someone uses means that you do not have and can't match, well then its no longer a game. Its fish in barrel, and I don't smell like Salmon....today anyways.

I would follow a good leader into combat and be the wing man of more experienced pilot, I would watch his six, and warn of incoming enemy AC. But there are too many cowboys who don't understand how combat worked during WWII.

I tried once to join a squadron but they were just not ready to perform cohesively. Also you get the guy who owns the server and has got a huge EGO. I am not going into this, hosting a game is probably difficult, (because of the childish behavior) and these guys just want a good clean game. But I have seen more than a few injustices.

I noticed a difference in maturity levels sometime ago. Some are really into it and want this higher level of cohesiveness in their games.

There are 2 excuses everybody uses:

This is war, there are no rules!

and

It's just a game!


I do not fly online anymore because of the selfish childs and adults on the same level.

If a pilot can find a squadron with mature pilots, then most of the problems are gone from the start.

However, there will always be the immature and some cheaters in public servers, just like guys are saying here.

I agree with what you wrote for the most part: Cheaters, false accusers (most common type?), and rude people are found in almost every mission in some servers, in my experience. Most pilots are not working together in HyperLobby in the way real world pilots would be cooperating.

Yes! Though I don't think it is quite as high as 99%, it sure is a very high percentage...

I agree that most accusations of cheating are false. On the other hand, breaking server rules and being rude are common, which is the other side of the dirty coin.

Yes! It feels good to work with a competent leader, if that means that I am the wingman.

Eric Hartmann, who we know had the greatest number of victories for a pilot in combat history, wrote something that will stay with me:

Most of Eric Hartmann's wingmen were great aces in their own right. His wingmen always had a good opportunity to get their own share of kills.



Obviously, Eric Hartmann must have been quite a team thinker. In my opinion, this is the ultimate leader, not the one who scores the most kills on a certain mission.

To the inexperienced pilots, I suggest studying the masters - not just their scores, but study their principles.

I have read many autobiographies and biographies of some of they aces and most offer their combat experiences. The most recent are

"Samuri": Saburo Saki

"The Blonde Knight of Germany" Toliver and Constable

"My Log Book": Gunther Rall (Signed Copy)

"The First and the Last": Adolf Galland

"Luftwaffe Eagle": Walter Schuck

"Dumb but Lucky" Richard Curtis

A bunch of stuff on Marsielle and others on Hartmann, Barr, Yeager, Bong, Gabreski, and if you can name the guy I probably have a book on him somewhere.
One thing that is always consistent is the cooperation between pilots for the single goal of getting home to fight another day. With the exception of Marsielle, who was a Maverick.

Rall did not like the young Hartmann for the same reason, although the accounts are different.

Flying online with real enemies is awesome, it adds a whole dimension to an already awesome sim. So if there is anyone out there who can lead a Rott or a Schwarm with reasonable leadership abilities and real discipline then let me know.
But therin lies our problem, There is NO discipline on the Internet. The only punishment for an infraction is "KICKED"

I think that all these books should be required reading :~)

I do some reading too, though not as much as you.

"Stuka Pilot" by Hans Ulrich Rudell was my favorite from a pilot. He was a consideration for the best conventional combat pilot of any aircraft type. Only in extremely poor weather conditions did he fly alone to avoid accident. Over 2,500 combat missions, started early in the war, and Rudell finished the war with a lost leg but flew with it to the end of the conflict. His list of victories is staggering, including a Russian warship - battleship was it?

Surviving Stukas depended on the group to fight and live. Lone wolves or mavericks died.

There is glory only with honor in my opinion. I enjoy flying with people who share that standard. It has been the ultimate pleasure to be with such people.

HyperLobby is a place to meet, greet and fight. Either with or against anybody.
It's a place where you can find just any kind of server, be it CRT protected or just kiddies.

H#ll, even I sometimes host a game on our private Sunday sessions, because for some strange reason a buddy/member can't join via IP,
but thru HL... Confusedhock: For any hints/tips/etc. how we could find a solution, I'd be most grateful! :-?

It's a place to find a game, or to find someone to play with. It's like a schoolyard - you have the "nerd corners", the "cool corners", the "you-don't-belong-here corners".
The choice, where you want to spend your time is up to you. And nobody else. And it moves you together...remember how many people you used to know or got to know...

Even if I prefer the use of DynDNS and a selected group of people to play with, I've had my share of HyperLobby experiences, good or bad.

But one thing is sure: I wouldn't wanna miss it. To me, it's like zapping on the TV - looking what program suits you.
If it doesn't, move on! :wink:

HyperLobby is only as good as the people using it (apart from some "updating functionality reasons", for which I'd really like to k/ck Fojtasek's bu##,
because it had me reinstalling the latest HL three times).

So, this "Discussion" question irritates me a bit - HL is a part of our common community of Il-2 users. And it is a vital part.
You might complain about bad experiences, you might be joyful about pleasant experiences, but nevertheless, it'll only be an online platform to search/host games.

Which games - that's up to you. Not HyperLobby's problem.
