Where do I go from here?
#1

Hey all,
I've modded my version of 4.08m to the limit, as my MODS folder alone now stands at 10gigs.
However;
Recently I've started trying to make my own missions, specially for the Battle of Britain, bu the only map for 4.08 I have that represents this conflict at all is the Normandy map, and Fly_Zo's BoB map which is a little inaccurate and sub-par when compared to the maps available for 4.09 or 4.10.
So my questions are;
1. Is there a map for 4.08 which effectively represents the Battle of Britain.
OR.
2. Should I try switching up to modded 4.10? I have a working install of IL2 4.10, stock and unmodded. My question here is, if I am to make the change up, how can I do it so that all my old mods work on the new version? Is this possible? I really hope so.
My ultimate dream map is Canon UK'S Channel Map, which I foolishly tried to install on 4.08l of course it didn't work. Sad
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ALOTEF,

V4.08m is a little bit old, according to me. I understand that you have a lot of good mods and you want to stay with your config, because I was in the same case ;o)
What I would suggest to you is to try a mod pack, so you will have all main mods with it (planes effects...). Back up your 4.08m INSTALL before doing anything, and try 4.10m with modpack ;o)
Canon's map is wonderfull, Westfront44 map too, with a modpack you will have more things than you had into you modded 4.08m.
Pay attention, under 4.10m, you will need only mods designed for 4.10m, because class files are not designed for the last updates, so sometime, mods made for 4.08 don't work with 4.10...
If I were you, I would test a mod pack with 4.10.1 and see if it were what I wanted, I would stay with this version...
Keep me update ;o)

nothing wrong with 4.09m, it's just older but it has the most mods, but don't expect to see 4.09m servers online if you want to play online.

Hi,

I have flown the BoB maps. They are all good to me.

If you want high quality around all the most important areas of the region, try the 352nd Cross Channel Map which has amazing detail such as nice beaches, cliffs, fields, and so forth. It was designed with realism in mind, but in doing so it has a 1 to 1 map size to region ratio. This makes some missions become quite long in flight time, though most are acceptable. The map can be demanding on a computer system if you want to add many objects and planes, but it is gorgeous. Most computers can handle all that.

You will have to check on the latest compatiblity. I flew missions using it online and offline over a year ago with 4.09 and HSFX 4.1

Both the recent HSFX 5.01 and UltraPack mod packs for IL-2 have it. Here is where you can plug mods into 4.10. I am not sure how to go about downloading the map for stock IL-2, but SAS ( Special Aircraft Service ) has an intaller for stock IL-2 which allows you to add maps. Check for compatibility.

I promise that it is at least worth looking at it for yourself. I wish that I could find links to images of the beautiful map.

Mod packs are time efficient if that is important to you.

Let us know how you feel after you get into it, okay? Smile
