P-51B-NA/P-51C-NT/Mustang MkIII

Which variant of the planes listed below do we have in the game? I do know we have the 85 gallon fuselage tank behind the pilot in the game.

P-51B-NA 1943

P-51B-1-NA,1943: Packard Merlin V-1650-3
P-51B-7-NA,1943: Packard Merlin V-1650-3/85 gallon fuel tank behind the pilot
P-51B-15-NA,1943 Packard Merlin V-1650-7/85 gallon fuel tank behind the pilot

P-51C-NT 1943

P-51C-1-NT: Packard Merlin V-1650-3
P-51C-3-NT: Packard Merlin V-1650-3/85 gallon fuel tank behind the pilot/ Malcolm Hood Retrofit
P-51C-5-NT: Packard Merlin V-1650-7/85 gallon fuel tank behind the pilot/ Malcolm Hood Retrofit

Mustang MkIII 1944

Mustang III: Packard Merlin V-1650-3/85 gallon fuel tank behind the pilot/ Malcolm Hood Retrofit or Packard Merlin V-1650-7/85 gallon fuel tank behind the pilot/ Malcolm Hood Retrofit

I want to make sure I am operating them according to the pilot’s manual and there are slight differences depending upon which engine.

Thanks,

Hi,

the B and C variants, as modeled, are equipped with the V-1650-3 engine.
The variant which is dubbed CM in the game is the Mustang MkIII 1944 and is equipped (as far as I remember) with the V-1650-7. I do not remeber about the internal fuel capacity but I can check when I get back home.
One thing I wish to point out is that Il2 flight physics does not model fuel tanks capacity impact on C.G. The C.G., as far as the fuel tanks capacity is concerned, does not move if the tank is empty or full. This is the reason for the original choice (a couple of years ago) of setting the C.G. in the position relative to the 85 gallons central fuel tank half empty (or less).

Thanks for the explanation. So now I know the P-51B-NA (Probably the P-51B-7-NA) and P-51C-NT (Probably the P-51C-3-NT) have the V-1650-3 Engine and have the port & starboard wing fuel tanks and the 85 gallon fuselage tank behind the pilot. The only difference being the Malcolm hood providing better vision since on the P-51C-NT.
